getting the best deal fios vs xfinity internet

My contract for fios ended today so we are dropping internet and phone.

These are the best no more budging / negotiating contracts for both that I could get from the philadelphia suburbs for internet only:

FIOS: 15/5 mbps
$59.99 first 12 months, $69.99 13-24 months

Comcast: 25 mbps download
$39.99 first 12 months, $64.99 13-24 months.  + $50 installation. We have a router + modem so we wouldn't need to rent


After 12 months have you been able to consistently to keep the price at the first 12 month offerings for either of these services?  The loops you have to jump through for both are ridiculous!

I'd go with FiOS if it was me, because Comcast is a big turd of a company when it comes to customer service, but it's very possible Verizon is no better.  I have heard decent things about FiOS service, which is refreshing.

Unless you don't have coaxial cables actually going to the place where you intend to attach your modem, the Comcast $50 installation charge is BS. You should be able to get them to waive it.

Comcast is the most terrible, evil company in the world, but I have been able to successfully re-negotiate <$40 rates each 12 month period. Sometimes it requires a lot of persistence -- and maybe a Better Business Bureau complaint or two -- but I've done it.

If FIOS were available here, and the customer service were better, I'd probably be willing to pay extra for it.

I had dsl for years for $40/month but it was 3mbps/.750. We use facetime too speak to family in Argentina alot and the speed was not good enough.

Switched to comcast with basic cable for a 59/month (months 1-6)-->69/month (months 6-12)-->79/month (months 12+).

I have not been able to find a better deal in my area (philly).
The speeds are 50/25 mbps

I've had 100% uptime with fios the past 2 years, and with 15/5 have had no issues downloading with multiple computers and internet radio going at the same time.  I work from home so uptime is a big concern of mine, so I guess I'll suck up the prices with fios.  I had hoped that having 2 options to select from would make them more competitively priced.  And at least I'm on the right path with lower payments, my bill used to be $115 a month with triple bundle.  Now we use an HD antenna and ooma (I use the landline phone for work).

50 Mbps for $39.99 / month.  No contract required, but the price goes up for years two and three.

If you are good with 10 Mbps, it's only $29.99 / month.

If I had access to FIOS, I'd pay a premium for it.
They don't cap and threaten caps like Comcrap.

FiOS just plain works, but I have little and less love for Verizon after getting gouged on a cell phone bill a few years back (long story, kids, texting, and zero compassion from Verizon for a steady customer). It's strictly business at this point, I'd throw them overboard in a NY minute if a better and more reliable deal came along. I am tempted to go to Comcast but haven't pulled the switch yet.
