I have one, and one only. Got it 8 years ago when I turned 19. Still means quite a bit to me, but honestly I forget it's even there most of the time; it's on my right shoulder blade so I don't even see it (I wanted to pick a spot that wasn't going to droop with age, haha).

IMO, ask yourself this question:

"Would I still get this tattoo if I were the only person able to see it/know it was there?"

If yes, go for it.

I always wondered if it was just me that forgets about having tattoos. I usually only remember mine once every few weeks when I'm standing at the mirror.

A tattoo is a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

Lol. Nope not just you. I'm about like you. Every couple of weeks I happen to notice mine and smile thinking "oh yeah. Yup, still cute" :)

Same here! Designed the tattoo myself, and it's covered 99% of the time - didn't do it for others, it was to appreciate more what I saw in the mirror. After a few years, I completely forgot about it. Traded a painting for the tattoo 15 years ago, so the investment was only ~$5 for the absinthe drunk as painkiller ;)

I once heard it described as "a mullet you can never cut off".

If you're in great shape, the tattoo takes away from the work you've done on your body

I dunno about all that. I'm 40, pretty lean with musc-les and abs 'n schtuff. Wifey is 37 and also has visible abs and lean, also with tattoos. Everyone our age is fat, so we're supa-dupa hot/jealousy inducing anyway. Guess the tattoos matter exactly nothing. Don't really GAF anyway, only time I'm shirtless in public is the beach and I have 2 toddlers running around, and I'm married and old. So who cares? Haha!
I think tats look especially bad if you are out of shape. If you are in shape it looks fine. I have 3 tattoos, got the first one at 18 and was done with ink by 25, I don't regret a single one because a)they are all meaningful and b) I selected locations that are easily covered by clothing. If you don't have a strong idea of a design you want to get and are just getting a tattoo for the sake of having one then get in line, everyone is doing that nowadays. I'm the least tattooed person at my work and the folks I work with have chosen to cover a much larger surface area than I would. There's some amazing work by some talented tattoo artists on display but the amount of money they have spent on the work is astonishing. We're talking thousands upon thousands of dollars and they are always planning for their next tattoo. I appreciate the artistry but I just couldn't spend that kind of money on tattoos. If I were going to drop that kind of cash on something purely aesthetic I'd invest in art for my home. Tattoos have come a long way but when you die that art goes with you.

I'll just leave this here:

Funniest shit I've seen in weeks.  Should be mandatory at all tattoo shops.

You will always "have a tattoo"  which has a negative connotation.   Kinda like an STD.

I have no judgements about tattoos really.  I have just never found any piece of art or any words that I would want to see on my body permanently.  If I did, I might consider one.  There are some beautiful tattoos out there by skilled artists.

Me neither.  Most of the time when I see them, I just think, Bleah, that doesn't look that good.  The ones I hate the most (not that it's any of my business, of course) are when people just get a tattoo, and then another one, and then another one, all kind of random, having nothing to do with one another, and just kind of randomly placed here and there.

Interestingly, the ones I have seen that I thought were gorgeous have almost all been people who decided to do one coherent design/theme over an entire area of their bodies.  I saw this guy on vacation last January who had these very geometric lines and shapes/patterns tattooed all over his entire upper body.  All black, no other colors.  He looked freaking great -- the effect was just stunning.  And I read a book recently where one of the characters had a dragon that covered most of his body -- the flames licking up the sides of his head, the body tattooed across his back, the limbs snaking around his torso, and the tail wrapped around one leg.  That sounds amazing.

so i was 27 and got a A with a atom around it medium sizeish on my chest. I was pretty big into anti-theism and atheism. hosted groups and religious debates and such. It was a ton of fun i made a lot of friends and learned a lot of things.

fast forward 4 years.

So my opinions on life have not changed at all. I did meet a girl who i'll be marrying one day we just purchased our house. A large portion of her extended family is Amish. So one day at a pool party my shirt comes off and by the end of the day everyone thinks i am a devil worshiper.

No one said anything to me about it of course. No matter how well meaning my intentions were it took a long time to over come some stigma. Which there still is a lot of. Don't get me started on work. I still like it still happy i got it. Hind sight being 20-20 i'd rather have invested the money after all the problems it cause and be that much closer to retiring :)
