Freelance Work
« on: July 13, 2014, 12:57:13 PM »
Hi, first time poster to the forum here!

I'm considering doing some freelance work through freelancer.com, and I was wondering if anyone has ever used that particular website? It seems legitimate, but it would be nice to hear a first hand account of how well it works.

Also, I'm curious as to the tax implications of working through a freelance website. Would it just be a normal 1099 type of thing?

I'm not familiar with freelancer.com, but it sounds similar to contently.com.

As for taxes, if they pay you $600 or more in a year they would be required to issue you a 1099. They likely will request a Form W-9 from you prior to issuing payment. (at least, they should.) however, regardless of whether they issue you a 1099 or not, you are still required to report all earnings for income tax purposes.
