Free ebooks
« on: February 17, 2013, 01:34:42 PM »
So I found some awesome resources for getting free ebooks and I wanted to share with everyone. MMM wrote an article about getting ebooks from the library. The only drawback is the limited selection and how long it takes for them to get new releases. Side note: I recently found out that my library carries online magazines!

Amazon has free ebooks which they regularly swap out (right side column of books only): http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kindle-Store-eBooks/zgbs/digital-text/154606011/

On Amazon you can lend books to your friends but now there's website for strangers to lend to each other. The website lendle.me has ton's of members which means it has a much better selection of ebooks than most libraries. It's free and you don't need to be a Prime member. People are really responsive about lending so it works really well.
Sorry international mustachians but this service is only available in the US.

Thanks for the post. My wife is an avid Kindle reader, and we have been taking advantage of the free books. I will surely give her a push in the lendle.me direction, and see if we can save a few extra dollars in the budget!

I assume that anyone getting into ebooks is aware of this, but if not it's worth mentioning.  Project Gutenburg (http://www.gutenberg.org/) is a site that has free downloads of classic books that are outside of copyright timeframes.  If you want to sprinkle in some classic books into the mix of your reading list, go there.

Also make sure to check with your local library to see if they partner with anyone to offer ebook lending. A few systems around here use Overdrive and offer a pretty good selection of Kindle books.

Hmm, does anyone use a Nook? or know of any sharing sites? With the exception of Project Gutenberg... those are kindle only.

My wife has been snagging books from http://www.bookbub.com for her nook and ipad.

If you are military (active, retired or former) you can get a library card with the Free Library of Philadelpia.  They seem to have a huge ebook collection, accessed through Overdrive.
