Free cash for car purchase- some areas of California
« on: July 09, 2015, 03:56:23 PM »
I'm not sure I agree with all of this, but here's California's pilot program for getting cleaner cars on the road. So if you're in the middle/lower part of central CA or further south in LA or eastward, you may be able to save some cash on a car.

Most of the assistance goes to those with the lowest incomes, but it also applies to residents with incomes up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Now if I hear of a bicycle subsidy, I'll be sure to let you know.

I'm imagining governmental exploitation racket right now. Buy cars in CA with the subsidy and resell in another state.

[Edit] Oh snap, looks like OC is included. Another link:

This is relevant to my interests.

Unfortunately I live in Orange County, so I'm not sure I can take advantage here.

This line is puzzling to me however:

Consumers do not have to meet the residency
requirement as mentioned above to qualify but still must reside in one of the two participating regions.

For those not interested in another car:

Money for public transit
If you scrap an old, dirty car but choose not to replace it, you are also eligible for vouchers for public
transit passes, between $2,500 and $4,500 in value, depending on your income level.

Wow. I love my 2 Leafs. And the used ones are pretty cheap (~$10k-$15k). With that kind of subsidy, it's such a great deal. There's almost no maintenance and electricity is really cheap compared to gas.

recently, I've been looking at buying an used leaf myself.
the rated range is 84 miles, but with battery deterioration, you probably don't want to count on more than 75 miles.
