  • I did decide to Fire in 2018 @Age47! :)
male, age 48, single, no kids

i unexpectedly FIREd in Sept 2018 because i was laid off in Aug.
i've been visiting alot of countries since then. (20+)

but when im home, ive mostly been  sitting in front of the computer and surfing the web, or sleeping.
i used to shoot pool and was in a pool league for years. but since ive been traveling so much, i could no longer commit to staying in the league.

then i found this that describes me:
https://www.quora.com/How-can-you-break-out-of-autopilot-and-stop-drifting-through-life

"Make a plan. You must have a Plan A as well as a back-up plan.

Write it all down, including your vision, goals and the steps required to achieve those goals.
Don't let life just happen to you.
Be deliberate and shape it for yourself.  From time to time, review your plan, assess, critique, make adjustments.

Life is serious business. All serious business has a business plan."

I really wonder how you visited 20 countries in half a year and still found time to sit in front of your computer feeling bored :p

First ideas that come to mind;
- Volunteering, short -term volunteer gigs shouldn't get in the way with your ad hoc travel plans so much.
- Pick up a low commitment sport (e.g. drop in hours at a swimming pool or climbing gym).

It sounds reasonable, but if you've been traveling to 20+ countries in such a short time, it sounds like you've been doing a lot more than drifting through life.  I expect to do some traveling when I FIRE but not make that much of an impact in less than a year.

Based on some older posts about what people want to do in retirement, where people made lists, I started making my own list of things that I want to do in retirement.  Some of them are repetitive things, others are one-time things.  Some are just ideas to keep in my mind that I might never do.  But I also put things on a list in the same document for things that I don't want to waste too much time on - like watching TV, surfing the internet, overdoing research, posting on internet forums, social media.

I update the list from time to time with something new.

Well I prefer to think of life as a game rather than "serious business". I mean how serious can a rock floating through eternal nothingness be? Whatever works though.

Personally, I can stay pretty damn content just beating around the house. Life doesn't have to be some grand adventure. Living a normal, boring life is completely underrated.

I usually get a new hobby that totally absorbes me for quite some time. Currently I am learning about edible plants. That requires reading, going out to find them, wash and treat them. Before that, I learned about edible mushrooms, which is a big area to learn about. I have been on numerous trips and spent a lot of time figuring out what I picked this time.
DH like to build stuff himself. He learns new skill in making knives, sewing leather, building stuff from wood. Currently he is sewing clothes.

The thing is that a new hobby can prevent you from getting bored. And you might meet new people who have the same hobby.

What do you think?

Before  FIREing I daydreamed about what my life would be like as a FIREee.

As a FIREee I still like to daydream.

OP, you are now a FIREee; there's nothing wrong with reverie.

I commend it to you.

EDIT:

OP, life DID NOT just happen to you. Instead, you charted a course, maintained it, and arrived in FIREtirement where you wanted to be.

Plan to relax for a while.

Are you asking what to do with your time, or looking for meaning in your life?
