Ok good luck everyone that pulled the plug this year.  I am going to go OMY so I'm moving to 2025.  We've hit FI, just want to pad the investments a bit more, 2024 has been an amazing investing year.

Add me to the list!

My employer said they were going to renew my contract for another year and then didn't. It's been a really toxic place to work and they wanted me to train my replacement. I said no and quit on the spot. FU money FTW!! I have enough to retire so I'm calling it quits from corporate America for good.

@Monkey stache -- that is an AWESOME exit!! Congrats!

It kind of reminds me of my spouse's job exit once. Manager had been escalating and at one team meeting, she said about a new policy, "If you don't like it, the door is that way..." to which my spouse answered, "I think I'll take you up on that offer."

The next day, Manager comes to spouse and asks, "Were you serious?" Spouse hands Manager letter with 4 weeks notice. FU money is a beautiful thing.

Thanks for sharing your tale and Happy FIRE 2024 cohort!

Well, I guess it is official official now.  Badge, computer, and other stuff all turned in.

I've actually been done with any work activities for a bit now so have been living La Vida FIRE.  I was fortunate in that, while I really didn't like me job, I was not in one of those super toxic positions that will months of recovery.  I've gotten over the initial "this is so weird" feelings, but still find myself sometimes mentally scheduling things like I have to plan for workdays.   Other times I lose track of the actual day and that has led to a couple of embarrassing moments when talking to someone with a regular work schedule.  I'm sure there will be other twists and turns, but I have to say I'm pretty happy right now.

Congrats on joining the cohort.  I had a call today to have a technician come out after the holidays.  They gave me the date and I checked the calendar and said "Yeah, Wednesday will work."  The other person immediately goes "we have Friday afternoon or Saturday if you'd rather have that."   Thinking to myself, no keep those dates available for people with jobs.

Congrats, and welcome to the adjustement phase! Sounds like yours is going well, which is nice. Being able to forget the day of the week is a bit of a flex, eh?

Yeah, it is.  Obviously I'm still in early days, so everything seems pretty amazing to me right now, but the other day I went for a walk down by a lake and was sitting on the shore enjoying the view and the weather and thought to myself that the most amazing part of the whole tableau was that it was totally arbitrary that I was doing it on a Saturday.

@By the River mentioned it is nice not to have to cram appointments into time slots that work with work and I've already gotten to appreciate that, too.

So I am essentially retired! Official last day is 12/31, when accounts and so on expire, but I turned in my badge and computer on the 16th and haven't answered a single email since 20th. Since my employer is closed until the new year, I'm all done.

Amazing. It's going to take a few weeks or months before my lizard brain stops panicking that there is something I should be doing. Nope. I could blow some leaves in the yard or do the dishes. I guess. An hour or so later that's done and I'm back to this weird wonderful ringing quiet.

Officially FIRE as of January 31, 2025!

Hi Folks,

I’m glad to share that I’ve officially submitted my resignation to my line manager, Talent Acquisition, and HR, a few minutes ago confirming that my last day of work will be Friday, January 31, 2025 (as per the requirement to give 1 full months notice before leaving).

In recent months, I was aiming for December 31, 2024, to be my final day - to ensure I achieve FIRE within the 2024 cohort timeline. However, I was fortunate to receive 25 days of paid Recreation Leave over the Christmas and New Year period, so I decided to extend my work schedule by an additional 14 work days, from January 13 to 31.

My final 14 working days will mainly involve supervising and training my team, ensuring a smooth handover. It should be a relatively low-stress way to wrap up my career as an employee.

Reaching this milestone feels great! Looking back I spent 11 years (2011–2022) working 7 days a week to help accelerate my journey to FIRE, and it is pleasing to see the finish line.

I want to express my thanks to everyone in this community. The encouragement and camaraderie here has been valuable. To those about to FIRE, congratulations!  And to those still on the path, I wish you perseverance.

Wishing you all the very best for the future and a very Happy New Year!

Over and Out,

Gary

I think handing in notice today still counts as making in in 2024 on a technicality. Congrats on making it to FIRE!

Big congrats to @Ambergris and @garyjames8 for finishing up 2024 with some big news and being members of the 2024 cohort!! (We are totally including you @garyjames8 !)

It is always a wild ride, this whole FIRE thing, and I'm personally happy to have finally made it after a number of years of OMY'ing. And I'm happy to be a member of this awesome crew.

Please keep updating your experiences with FIRE -- I know it is nice for folks to see how we are doing, the good, bad, ugly, and beautiful!

Happy 2025!

Congrats 2024 FIRE cohort!

Thanks again @ToughMother for keeping the list.

I spent my first couple months of FIRE getting my house ready to rent out which was a lot of work.  Since September I've been on the road visiting Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico so far.  I'm living out of my electric car, spending a lot of time camping and some in hotels.  I had a wonderful week in Moab meeting other Mustachians and making a bunch of amazing new friends.  This has been the craziest and most amazing time in my life.  I'm glad work turned down my offer to continue on part-time remote.  It's been way more fun to be completely free and not worry about finding internet, or the time to work.  I don't know if I'll stay FIREd or want to keep traveling after my year is up.  But I'm sure happy to be FI and have options.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their FIREd life!

We did it! December 31st was our last day of work and amazingly, as soon as we packed up our laptops, work was a distant memory. Everyday is Saturday and the past 13 days have been amazing, relaxing, and so worth the work and sacrifice to get here!

Congratulations to all who FIREd in 2024!

Paging @Purple_Crayon.

Thanks for the page, Dicey! And also great to see the update from Holocene! I've actually been posting my updates over in the 2026 cohort lately because I can't seem to decide when to call it. I may have to abandon that cohort as well, as I'm heavily leaning toward 2025.

For the list I am the artist formerly known as lilkidjesus.

"abandon" is a word only used for OMY not One Less Year :-)
