Fast food soda dirtier than a toilet?
« on: November 09, 2015, 08:12:14 AM »
Some interesting points. I don't eat out that much anymore, though I did in my twenties a lot.

Thanks for that!

I try to eat right but slightly flat fountain soda is one of my weaknesses. From now on I can think of this and drink bottled water instead. Blech!

Beer taps are probably not much better, nor the food from many of the non-fast food chains such as Applebee's, Chili's, O'Charlie's, etc...

The article as a whole sounds like fearmongering. And technically, they're questioning the ice from the machine, not any of the drinks. I don't get soda all the times I go out but I frequently get ice water...and I can't think of a time that has made me sick. Can you?

Also, presumably because of the potential for toilets to be dirty and germy, we seem to have really high standards for cleaning them, making them cleaner than doorknobs. Also probably money, steering wheels, elevator buttons, etc. Basically "toilets are cleaner than x" may speak to the cleanliness if toilets more than the dirtiness of x.

Calm down.

I didn't click to READ MORE (don't want to wade my way through all that) so didn't see the details.

Years ago our Microbiology class went out and swabbed everything we could in school.  Toilets ended up being one of the cleaner things.  Really, unless the bacteria are E. coli or pathogenic, the environment is full of bacteria we don't need to worry about.  You have at least 3 pounds living in and on you, no problems, many beneficial.

I did click through, and there weren't many details.   I've never heard of ice machines being a public health issue.

The article is really just a long advertisement.  We all know fast food is bad for us anyway ;)

The world needs to discover the dollar menu at most fast food restaurants.  I have strangely discovered that a 99 cent cheeseburger and value cut fry from wendy's is just as filling as a combo meal - at about 1/3 of the cost....

I did not click through, but I find it amusing that so many statistics compare themselves to commercial toilet seats, which have had anti-microbial MICROBAN blended in with the plastic for decades now.

The seats are designed to prevent or inhibit microbe growth, and they are solid surfaces to boot, so drying action and normal cleaning hampers the rest.   That is why they are one of the more sanitary places.  Now if they swabbed the FLOOR grout... yikes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.  What is MicrobanŽ antimicrobial product protection?

Microban technology is built-in protection for solid products, coatings and fibers.  This provides an added level of protection against damaging microbes such as, bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause stains, odors and product deterioration.

3.  How does Microban antimicrobial protection work in my product?

Microban protection is built-in to the product during the manufacturing process.  When microbes come in contact with the product surface, Microban protection penetrates the cell wall of the microorganism and disrupts the cell, making the microorganism unable to grow and reproduce

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
