I think that @BoomBoomMancini is laughing at us. This thread is three pages long. Their match certainly found kindling...

@Cawl, this place is primarily about FIRE, not budgeting for shiny, spendy shit and then justifying the purchase because it's in the budget. That's rather inane.  In the olden days, BBM's question and that rationalization would have garnered you and BBM staggering heaps of facepunches.

Yeah, the forum's gotten soft...now get off my [nonexistent] lawn!
To be honest, I'm just bored at work.
Well if you took that $50k plus all the other stuff like insurance, registration, maintenance, etc and invested it you could FIRE earlier and be at home playing with Titan Warlord instead ;-)
Amen, FIRE sister!

At first I though they were talking about a Nissan Titan truck which is way more expensive than $50k sports car. Then I realized it was a (I want to say toy but that's not right). But now I have dreams of a Nissan Titan Warlord truck complete with plasma annihilaters to remove those pesky LA freeway traffic jams ;-).  Although there is a Nissan Titan Warrior truck. Which does @Cawl have? Maybe both!

I wound up spending 70k renovating/upgrading the building I inherited. The payback on that is going to take some time.

Something that will probably go up instead of definitely go down.

Hopefully, but if it's commercial property it could be a crapshoot. I also have to hope that they got a lot of bang for their $70k and it was for needed work. You know how much we mustachians love DIY and bang for our buck. OTOH, if is is a commercial property, it might be a write-off. Still miles [snirt] better than a brand-new fancypants car.

Yep, lease it or sell it. You'll probably clear some cash.

I put solar panels on the building. The rest was essentially rebuilding it from the ground up. New electrical. New insulation. New drywall. Even put a PLC in my work room. (I had high hopes of automating a garden at some point.)

Is it a commercial property?  "My workroom" is a bit non-specific. Either way, probably way better that spending that on a car, which is praiseworthy indeed.

It is a commercial property. Brick and mortar divided into three sections. Two sections have been rented out. (Garage and apartment.) The last section I took for a work area.
