Excited about the new year!
« on: December 31, 2012, 09:49:43 AM »
I put together an excel spreadsheet to track my financial assets as well as how much I spent on a yearly basis starting with college graduation. I use this info to compute how close I am getting to the 4% FI rule (spending/assets).

I am quite excited to input 2012's progress to FI as well as excited about the planned increased savings for 2013!

What is everyone excited (or perhaps nervous) about?

I'm excited about the market finally making some progress again after a fiscal cliff deal is (hopefully) closed today.

I'm anxious as I have been saving towards a home down payment in my ridiculously overpriced market, but have been having second thoughts about my ever-growing 'stache being substantially locked up in real estate.  That decision is going to come to a head here sometime this year and I'll have to decide whether to keep accumulating or to go in on the RE.

I am excited having my student loan pay off this year!

After that I will be saving up to build up my stash, I foresee my progress will be great after adopting most of the advice from the MMM blog and changed some of my mindset on debt, saving, expense, interest rate.

Happy new year!!

I am excited about being semi-retired this year: I am planning a year with more exercise and outdoor play,  growing more food, and hoping to bring my stress level and my weight down!

I feel slightly anxious about living on the reduced budget, even though I've been over it several times to reassure myself.

I'm excited about paying off my student loan (next month!) and figuring out the wisest thing to do with the extra cash flow thus freed up. And using my accumulated cheap-travel knowledge on a real vacation instead of on business travel. And I'm excited about recovering from my NYE hangover.

So many things to be excited about in 2013:

-New baby coming
-Stepping away from the 9 to 5 and trying to figure out how to make money other ways (consulting, retail biz idea, online biz ideas, investing, etc.)
-Buying our first house and finally building some equity and putting the massive downpayment we've saved up to work. Monthly costs should go down 30% or so after the mortgage is complete (and considering insurance, taxes, etc.)
-And I'm nerdily excited about the Obama healthcare exchanges that will come out at the end of the year.  I'm hoping they make it much more feasible to get decent insurance for those not seeking traditional employment--and it becomes mandatory to cover maternity care without a waiting period so next baby is much more feasible...

Things to be nervous about...
-New baby coming!
-making it work on one income for a while

2013 is the year we have been planning for.

We are excited, nervous, happy, liberated and scared witless.

We are selling pretty much everything we own including our cars, house, furniture, we are donating all our excess toys, clothes, books, kitchen stuff, furniture to people who need them. (and exclaiming that we will never buy another thing, ever!)

We are cleaning our house and fine tuning the garden to sell it and will invest the money and live off the interest/dividends for a while. (we own it)

We are booking airfares, apartments and houses and planning which countries we would like to be in for which season.

We are preparing our children to let go of their own possessions and convincing them that our home will be wherever we are and filled with love. (children are 3 and 5)

We are looking forward to having each other everyday, all of the time, to re connect with ourselves, as a couple and as a family.

Taking the time to pursue our personal interests is exciting.

There is a lot to be done in the first 6 months of the year: cleansing, selling, training staff, saying goodbye, streamlining possessions, setting up investment strategies to be accesible worldwide and generate enough income and savings for us to be satisfied.

Good luck with your 2013 everyone; I hope it's a blast!
