discounts for YNAB?
« on: April 11, 2014, 09:55:43 AM »
Anybody seen any discounts for YNAB other than the $6?  I would love to find a deeper discount!
Thanks.

I got it during a black Friday sale.
It was half off, but I hadn't seen any discounts besides the $6 before. Or since.

I also bought it on the Black Friday sale, but I got an email a while back saying it was free for college students.

Steam has seasonal sales and it usually has a big discount.

It's currently free for college students. Other than that and the aforementioned Steam sale, I only know of the $6 off.

If I can find a way to transfer my Steam purchase, you can have it for free (I'm to lazy to budget, and just rely on fuzzy math).

Do you all prefer YNAB to Mint for the budgeting aspect? Mint storing my credentials is less of a concern for me.

I've got a slickdeals.net alert set for the next time it goes on sale.

I have used Mint and Yodlee (when I switched to a credit union that Mint didn't support).  I have praised Mint to no end.  However, I prefer YNAB because it forces me to THINK about my budget ahead of time and really see where my money is going.  All Mint and Yodlee to is basically track your spending.  With YNAB, you have to budget in advance and then enter/track your spending yourself.

It's more work, but it has been really eye opening for me.  We have never spent more than we made, but the last few years, we have definitely had "lifestyle inflation" that has decreased our potential to save.  We have travel priorities too, so YNAB helps us to focus on all of that.

You can try it free for 30 days.  I also did 3 of the real time tutorials and they were great.  Plus, there is a app that uses drop box where you can enter in your expenses as they incur.  You don't don't have to wait until you get home.  It's fantastic.  Buy some petrol, get in the car, turn on your phone, open the app and enter what you spent.  Done.

Hope that helps!

Free if you're a college student!

Oops, I'm a college student and I paid my $52. ($6 discount, $6 referral for doing it in the chain.) Oh well, I'd be paying for it in a year anyway ;)

It's 75% off ($15 instead of $60) today.  Jump on it now if you've been waiting.  Happens about every 6 months to one year.
