Dead refrigerator
« on: September 13, 2015, 10:58:17 AM »
Actually, I think I can cautiously say the appliance itself may survive, but all the food in the refrigerator and fridge freezer was a loss. Some but not all of the condiments survived, mostly things that don't really require refrigeration. The good news is the beer and wine are okay:-)

The real good news is we have a les than one year old deep freezer, and that's where I keep the bulk of the meat. We lost about $15 of premade hamburger patties (no face punches - it was a great sale) and two or three chicken sandwich patties, but the rest was veggies.

So - we think the compressor just overheated and kicked off, and we think the whole thing was off for not more than about 24 hours. The depth of dust bunnies under there was truly impressive, and there must not have been much air circulation.

Don't do what we did. Clean under your fridge a couple times a year, at least, and get a brush for the coils. This will save you money and spare you a truly disgusting job!

Yeah I recently bought a 1 year old fridge off craigslist, and man was I AMAZED at how much dust had clogged up the condenser coil under the fridge. Thanks for the advice, I probably need to setup some kind of 1 or 2 year reminder to clean it.

You might want to do it more often than that; we've only been in this house two years, and I cleaned the underside and coils when we moved.
