Dave Gold--Founder of $.99 Store
« on: April 28, 2013, 01:40:23 AM »
Dave Gold--Founder of $.99 Store has died.

He was worth over a billion and lived in the same modest house and drove a Prius. I'm a big fan of the store and shop there on average twice per week. Lots of fruits and vegetables that are way cheaper than grocery stores and even Costco.

Here's Dave Gold on how to make alotta millions: http://idiy.wonderhowto.com/how-to/david-gold-make-alotta-millions-from-99-0126747/

Enjoyed that.

Amazing that he didn't start it until he was in his 50s!

Thanks for sharing.

Interesting.

Anyone ever shopped in one of his stores?  Are things really 99c?  Or have they abandoned that model.

Cool story!  I might actually print this and use it in my classroom.

However, I don't shop at the .99 store.  When I do, I find that I come out with half a dozen things -- you know, the kind of junk that "might come in handy" and in reality sits around in the bag 'til you toss it six months later.

I'd guess that is a pretty big part of their business model.  You go in for a couple of inexpensive cleaning supplies, should cost about 2-3 dollars.  But you walk out with 12 items because, hey, it's only a buck!

I know I do it when I shop at Dollar Tree.  So I make a list and stick to it.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
