...so I spent the morning online joining a book club and crochet club in town, putting a few comedy shows on my calendar and generally just daydreaming of the first day in 15 years that I won't have to set an alarm.

I haven't really told anyone at work where I'm going (nowhere) or what I'm doing (nothing) after I leave this job, but yesterday a friend at work asked what I had lined up.  I reminded him that he had shown me a really interesting website a few years ago (this one!) and it really helped me get on the path I'm taking now.  He smiled and said..."I figured that's what you were doing!"  It was nice to be able to share that with someone that totally understands!

Everything about this is awesome.

Oh man, I don't even know.  I think I'm going to go to our local discount grocery store and find something totally different to cook.  Maybe I'll even try out my smoker that a friend gave me over 6 months ago that I've never had time to use.  I'm excited to cook dinner now, lol, what a dork!  :)

Today was my last day of work.  All day I was excited that it was my last day, a few tears were shed as the last few people said goodbye to me, but overall I was ready to move on.  When I finally got home and got comfy in my recliner with my blankie, my laptop and my remote, a text came in from my replacement...they had a sick call, could I come to work tomorrow?  Suddenly all my sadness about leaving that job vanished.  There couldn't have been anything more perfect to confirm that I made the right decision to leave.  I'm finally free!  And awake at 3 am with acid reflux, but who cares, cuz I don't have to be ANYWHERE tomorrow!

Explain it like I'm 5.

You left, they had a sick person call off, they want you to come back for one more day, and this confirms you made the right decision to quit?

It was exactly what I needed right when I needed it.  Weird how that happens.

I think that now you have a feeling that figuratively speaking, you've passed through a one-way portal that opens to a state of bliss.

Good for you!

Congratulations, and this is hilarious - asking you to come back in after you no longer work there. Really, WTF.

Asking you to do one more day?  I hope you texted back a gif of Dr Evil (piney at lips) "for one million dollars".

They called you to come in after your last day? That's awesome. Lol. Congrats on your freedom!

My last job had night time oncall and I wound up getting called by the help desk after hours for a support issue the week after I left because the person actually oncall wouldn't answer their phone. Oops. I had a good laugh with the tech about it.
