I don't mean to nitpick, but wouldn't a regular bike with rear rack + pannier bags work about as well?  And with a lot less cost/mechanical complexity.

Definitely clever and novel! I agree that a regular bike with panniers gives 90% of the benefit without all the complication, but a few use cases would be really nice. For example, they show an infant car seat in the cargo area which is a spectacular solution -- would be easy to attach and at a low center of gravity. Some people could use it to avoid the alternative cost/complexity/hassle of a trailer.

I have an Electric bike and use It with two kids and groceries. Like the idea but very curious how stiff/stable the frame and construction are.
