From your bank for free? I hardly use them any more, so I just get the standard plain ones in whatever quantity they allow for zero dollars. I get them delivered to my local branch so I don't have to worry about them getting stolen out of my mailbox either.

Bank with Schwab. No fees whatsoever. I just ordered 200 checks delivered to my mailbox for free.

Do people still really use that many checks? I switched to paying all of my bills with rewards credit cards and paying them off each month electronically. Heck, even my water bill in the little town I live in (under 3,000) gets paid online. The only checks I write now are for garbage (quarterly) and the occasional gift. The last time I ordered checks I bought them from Carousel, but that was probably a couple of years ago. If I remember right, they were pretty cheap. Good luck!

My bank does not give them for free. The cheapest place I found is through Costco.

And I still write checks weekly. I write a check each week for daycare (there is no credit option) and for my oldest daughter's guitar lessons. Sometimes I also write checks for different contractors (HVAC repair, etc).

When I last looked it up, Costco was the cheapest option.  I don't remember the cost.  I know ordering them from my bank was hilariously overpriced by comparison.  I bought two boxes of checks a few years back, and I probably have 85% of them left, so I'll probably need to order more sometime in the mid-2030s.

Might be worth asking if the daycare and guitar teacher would accept electronic payments. Paypal does that, and your bank may as well.

I've had the same box of checks for 4 years now. Expect to finish it this year or next. Considering that it's 2 addresses out of date, it will be nice to get the right address on them.

I get mine from Costco as well. Pretty cheap and they have tons of designs. Although tbh I rarely ever need to write a check anymore.

The credit unions I use have never charged a penny for checks even when I have to reorder more. Furthermore they charge zero account fees per year. Consequently their savings interest rate is low so those funds sit at ally whereas checking is at the credit unions

My bank is all setup with a service.  They try to trick you into the checks you have to pay for, but if you click around long enough you can find the free option...  :-)

I still use about one a week.  Water/trash pickup is check only.  Gas and Electric both have really high surcharges for credit card and the direct account access still has a small surcharge which still makes it cheaper to mail a check.  Property tax has a really ugly surcharge on electronic payments, so they get a check too.  I haven't flown in a while, but the group I'm in now, airplane rentals are all done by check.

In contrast I use my credit card about once a month on average (sometimes I'll go 2-3 months in a row without using it at all) as it's just for on-line purchases (which I try to minimize as I prefer to get my stuff right away from a store rather than have to wait for a shipment).

Walmart has them too.  Can't remember the exact price, but you could do a comparison to Costco.

Does your bank have a bill pay option? If I ever need to send a check, I do that and they mail one for me for free.

Checks In the Mail https://secure.checksinthemail.com/ is where I have ordered when my credit union wanted to charge for checks.  It was usually about half the price.  I last ordered a couple of years ago and still have more than half of the box.  Now I can mail a check online from my credit union, so I may never need to refill.

Exactly.  My bank stores payee information so all I have to do is input the $$ amount and press send.  Works great for things like water, utilities, or shared group costs where you are paying a different amount each month.  For my rent, my bank sends the check automatically each month.  I've been using this bill pay service for years and never had a problem.

Sure -- my bank has that, and I use it all the time for regular expenses.  But there are times when you still need to either pay cash or write a physical check -- school registration things, kid activities, in-person athletic registrations, etc. etc.  No way I can think of to do most of that with the bank service, because you have to pay there at the event.  I use way fewer checks than I used to, but I still go through about 50 paper checks a year
