Cheapest chrome book for surfing the internet?
« on: September 25, 2021, 01:12:12 PM »
How much could I minimally spend?  Will largely only be using for Surfing the net. Need to be able to remote into it.

Any other recommendations as well?

Maybe raspberry pi is cheaper way to go?

I bought my Acer Chromebook in 2018 for about $200, use it daily, and have never had any trouble with it. I'm not tech-savvy enough to tell you the specs or model or anything like that, but the sticker says "Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-532", so if that means something to you, I can vouch for it for a good casual-use computer. I will say that since the pandemic started and I tried some video calls, it is not very good for that (the camera/sound quality is pretty bad), but I've never had trouble with anything else. And I hate video calls with a passion, so it's no big deal to me.

If you need a keyboard and like a slightly larger screen, Costco has these on sale at the moment for $229:

I got one earlier this month after by previous one (seemingly identical model/price) died 1 month after the 2 year warranty expired.

For light-duty web browsing you can go with the Pi 400.

Probably not much at all if you are happy to buy used, $50 or so?

You'll probably find a low-end new CB for $100-150 on a Black Friday deal or similar, although it depends on specs (including screen size).

Here's the absolute cheapest Chromebook on Newegg:

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
