Chase CC Rewards Strategy
« on: February 16, 2017, 01:52:52 PM »
My wife and I recently both applied for the Chase Reserve card for the 100k point sign up bonus after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. Our next payment will put us over that $4000 limit on each card, so we'll get the points.

I'm hoping to open another Chase credit card to use it for the sign up bonus, since I can combine the rewards to Chase Ultimate Rewards and have everything in one place. It looks likes the Chase Freedom card has a 50k point sign up bonus, and the Chase Ink Business Preferred card has a 80k sign on bonus if you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months. Two questions:

1) Can an individual (not a business) sign up for a business credit card? In the distant past I was able to do this without issue. Still the case?
2) I believe this Ink Business Preferred is the best Chase card for us to sign up for.  True? I'd sign up first and get the 80k bonus after we spent $5,000 in 3 months, then have my wife do the same.

1) Well... You need to have a business, even if it's a side hustle or a new business. If you don't have an ETIN, the card will be on your personal credit report and count towards 5/24. Don't lie about your business income, either.

2) Yes.

Thanks for the response.  I don't have a business.  Since I don't have an ETIN can I still apply for this card?  I dont mind that it goes towards my 5/24 since I only have 1 other Chase card (and a mortgage) through Chase.

If I'm understanding correctly you're saying I can still sign up for a Chase Business card without a business (and ETIN) but this will count towards my 5/24.

The Sapphire Preferred has a 50k bonus.  The Freedom Unlimited is currently offering a $150 cash bonus.

$150 cash bonus actually comes in the form of 15k ultimate rewards (which can be worth $225 for travel if you have sapphire reserve).

I think that poster is saying that you have to have business regardless, but not having a ETIN will count against your 5.  The application will ask whether you have a business, so unless you plan on lying on the application, you'll need a business.

However, I'm wondering about lying about your business income issue. I agree that you should not be lying on any part of the application, but how would the CC company verify your business income, if you, say, sell stuff on craigslist?

You can apply for a Chase business card with only an SS# if you have a business.

You can also apply for a Chase business card with only an SS# if you do not have a business. That is, you're lying on the application about your business income. Do this at your own risk.

Fair enough - regardless, it's not the 50k points claimed in the OP.  I think the cards are confused there.

You're correct, my mistake.  I meant to say the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.
