Car clown behavior, asking for forgiveness
« on: August 08, 2013, 11:15:06 AM »
Hello, I have been work commuting for about 3 months now, after being inspired by this website (3.5 miles each way, all bike lanes).  About a month ago I developed a case of Plantar Fasciitis.  While my doctor told me I COULD still cycle, I do feel some occasional slight pain while cycling and all the advice I have read to get rid of this ailment is to stop the activity.

So, as of today, I am car clowning around until my foot feels better.  Even worse, I already stopped taking the stairs and have also been elevator clowning it.  I don't own a moped so other than the bike or the car, I don't have many options. We do have a bus system in town but the nearest stop is 2 miles away, which is too far to walk with this.

Can you please forgive me?  As the pain goes away, I promise to go back to my better habits of riding my bike, which is actually preferable to me.  Thanks for your consideration.

You sound a bit like Derek Jeter asking for forgiveness because he is also hurt and cannot do what he normally would.

Except Derek Jeter isn't asking anyone for forgiveness (understanding, maybe), and frankly neither should you.  Best prescription is to delete this post and let your injury heal.

I have been a total car clown today, I need forgiveness.  It's silly how many parked cars we have even around Whole Foods nearby.

Find someone to carpool with.  Can you work from home a couple days a week?

Carpooling 3.5 miles is a tough sell, but you're right, there is one guy in my building who refuses to bike to work, but he also has different hours than I do, he's usually in earlier and leaving later.  For now, until I heal, I may be a car clown.

Why on earth would you ask forgiveness of strangers for doing something that's best for your health?  Those of us who strive to live a frugal life definitely find some common threads that are best for our long-term financial security, but few of those things are absolutes.  Avoiding driving a car isn't an absolute must-do.  Do what's best for you.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
