December Vacation Ideas
« on: October 30, 2016, 07:09:15 AM »
Do you guys have any vacations ideas for December? I am thinking about going some place warm. I have some chase rewards points and some Delta sky miles at we could use. We are trying to go between December 17th to the 23rd.

Thanks

Three childhood friends are flying to Houston from New York and staying at my house one night, and then the four of us will drive to New Orleans. We will stay for 3 nights, during the week between Christmas and New Years. I maxed out on my number Chase cards (including CSR - woohoo!), the UR's of which the family will be using for a summer vacation next year. But I have a couple of Hotel cards whose sign up points I can use to treat everyone to our first night free in New Orleans. I'm thrilled I can do this for my friends.

No guarantee it will be warm, but it will certainly be better than New York. To say I'm excited it would be a gross understatement.

Via one of our timeshares we have a very cheap week that needs to be used before the end of May.  If you are interested I could look into some of the tropical locations available during that week.  The weeks go for $750 for the week and most can sleep up to 6 with full kitchens.

Side note:  I am not using it because I am going to Puerta Vallarta on the 24th of Nov. and Cancun in April, my mom who is a co-owner is going to Hawaii next week.  Therefore we do not have any more time off to be able to use it:(

Assuming you're in the U.S.... Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands if you're on the east coast, Hawaii if you're on the west coast. Relatively short travel time, and it's plenty warm in any of those places! (My favorite thing to do in December when I lived in the VI was to kayak the bioluminescent bay on Christmas Eve. It's warm and tropical, but it seems Christmasy with all those "lights" down below, and stars above if the clouds cooperate.)

Cruises to the Caribbean are cheap this time of year especially since you can go on short notice. We just booked a 7 night Royal Caribbean cruise for 278/person for 12/8.

It seems that I can go to Puerto Rico or Mexico for $2500 from ATL 5 nights 2 adults. I been able to go for 6 nights through vacation express before for $1700 from Charlotte. I guess is more expensive because is closer to Christmas.

Thats a good deal. What website did you use?

The ship is Empress of the Seas. It is cheap because it is a smaller/older ship.

Key West is lovely in December.  Fly in to Ft. Lauderdale and drive...it's a 4 - 6 hour drive depending on how many tiki bars you stop at along the way ;-).  Lots to do there, although avoid the diving if that's something you do...not good there.  Some good snorkeling spots and lots of sunset booze & music cruises, etc.  Great restaurants, tons of fun bars, lot of history, eco tours, jet skis, and other non-drinking activities as well.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
