Broward County (FL) Ballot Proposal
« on: November 02, 2016, 10:33:36 AM »
Interesting and possibly even mustachian proposal on the ballot in my county this election. It will increase the sales tax to 7% (1% increase for 30 years), which matches what neighboring Miami has had for a long time.

The funds are not for general spending though, about half will be marked for county-wide public transportation upgrades. This includes more bus routes and a light rail connecting some commuter areas to ease traffic. The other half will go to the cities to improve fire and police stations, parks, and add bike lanes all over the place. Their site, http://www.apennyatwork.com/ goes into more specifics. From what I read my whole neighborhood would get bike lanes and the main road that goes to the grocery store would get them too.

Increases in taxes are never fun, but this one may be worth it (assuming they do what they are proposing). It's nice that this is a tourist area so they will be picking up part of the tab. It also gives an incentive to be more mustachian and spend less.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
