There's a budget going around the internet put out by McDonalds and Visa.

One writeup: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-18/mcdonald-s-jobs-are-drive-thru-not-dead-end.html

It would be interesting to see MMM go through it with a fine tooth comb. :P

Apologies if this has been brought up before and my search skills are lacking.

I thought Mc Donalds was mainly for kids as their first job or someone getting through school.  The older people are managers and not being paid min wage.

At least here in Canada, where health insurance is generally not needed and minimum wage is around $10/hr I think it's quite reasonable to live on minimum wage, if you are careful. I wouldn't want to do so forever and I wouldn't own a car and might have to have a roommate. But it's doable.

I'd assume a rough take home pay of $1300. And here are some numbers from my own current expenses:

half of rent for 2 BR: $500
half of hydro: $35
half of phone service: $50
half of internet: $30
laundry:  $15
bus pass: $80
food: $300 (this is my real cost; you could get lower obviously)
Total Fixed: $1010
Remainder of $290/month for clothes, miscellaneous, savings

Of course if you want to drink, smoke, shop or eat out it gets a lot harder.

No need to apologize, but thought I'd link to the previous discussion about this ongoing here, for anyone interested:
