Beware Christmas Driving
« on: December 14, 2015, 09:05:12 AM »
From an article in our local newspaper:

"Drivers should take extra care around the holidays. Based on Allstate Canada collision data over the last decade, Dec. 23 is the day a collision is most likely to occur, while Dec. 21 ranks as the third most common day for collisions."

Suggest you take a few minutes and pack extra patience and care before heading out on extra Christmas adventures - whether in a car, on a bike, or using the heel-toe express.

Thanks. Not owning a car so I assumed this would not apply to me, but I think us walkers should be extra careful as well. Don't want to get hit by a car while I'm crossing the street!

I suspect this statistic has a lot to do with increased rates of drunk driving over the holidays.

You are squishy and make an uncomfortable noise when under a car.

Are Dec 21 23 big drinking days?  For me those are is a normal work-days.

I figured it had to do with more people on the road due to holiday travel, in a rush to get somewhere, and often bad weather.

Drinking related I'd expect to see the summer holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, or 4th of July), or New Years high on that list.

Its all of the above. Holiday parties, rushing to buy stuff, being busy, people being in circumstances they would not normally be in.

Just be careful, drive defensively, and plan ahead.

Just be careful, drive defensively, and plan ahead.

Plan ahead to stay forted-up at home; well lubricated and heavily armed, keeping a bead on the front door, the back door --and the chimney, just in case...

It'll be a 2nd Amendment Christmas. Now that's defensive.

Can you explain what you do with your lubricated beads?

He already mentioned the back door . . . you want him to draw you a diagram?

I'm on call for trauma surgery at a level 1 center, on the 24th, should be great times.

In my family, the catalyst might be "No, I'm not going to cook the standing rib roast to medium well!"

Just be careful, drive defensively, and plan ahead.

I find that driving as aggressively as possible works well. Since everyone else on the road is doing the opposite.

Also, get out of the fast lane, it is for people doing 20+ over only. Tickets are just a known cost of business, and inconsequential to most on these boards.

If you drive at twice the posted speed limit you get to your destination twice as fast, so there's less chance of you being in an accident because you're spending less time on the road.

In my family, the catalyst might be "No, I'm not going to cook the standing rib roast to medium well!"

Followed by, "You can put your piece in the microwave if you want it well done!"

And, "That's not blood, its juice!"
