Haven’t used VRBO but use AirBnB a lot for whole home rentals. This includes several US cities, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland, and Czech Republic. I have yet to have a bad experience. Main thing is to make sure your expectations are not the same as staying in a nice hotel. Some things will be much better (e.g., more personalized and often feels more like being a local) and other things often won’t (e.g., there probably won’t be a half dozen, soft towels in the bathroom). Outside of booking award nights at hotels, AirBnB made my travels significantly more affordable than staying in hotels and, for me, overall better.
