Anyone Have a Papillionaire Bicycle?
« on: April 29, 2014, 04:27:15 PM »
Hi, I am considering buying the Somer bicycle by Papillionaire https://www.papillionaire.com.au/our-bike/sommer

I was wondering if anyone has purchased or ridden this bike? And if so, what you think about it? Thanks for you help.

Haven't ridden it, but it's available in exactly two sizes in the three-speed version, and exactly one in either the single-speed or eight-speed. Going to be tough to get a good fit in that; their recommended height ranges are ridiculously broad.

I'm curious about their bikes, too.
I just had my bike stolen and am in the market for a new one. Not many options to try out locally but I've been surfing the web and came across Papillionaire. What other bikes are you looking at?

Looks like the type of bike you could find at a garage sale.

I've ridden one. Really smooth, and shifts nicely. However, they are crazy heavy. I would suggest looking into http://publicbikes.com/ . They have sales often, and the look great (also heavy steel). That frame style does allow for a massive usable height range though, so the two sizes are not that big of a deal.

I collect bikes, ride bikes every day, flip/fix bikes professionally--- and have never once bought a new bike. Just not worth it! Where do you live? Do you have a robust Craigslist network nearby that you can look through? Search for the term "mixte"-- and look around for Bianchi's, Nishiki's, and pretty much anything else Japanese.

If you must have retro and you must have new, look at Worksman bikes. Heard very good things from the owners I've run into.
