Title: Any RE fail stories?
Post by: retired? on February 25, 2015, 09:13:55 AM
Whether yourself or someone you know....friend/relative.  "Fail" would depend on the person.  I don't consider RE to be 'never working again', so for me 'failing' would be either:

a)  I find myself regretting the decision to quit my final well-paying job.

b)  I find myself taking a job for the $$ that I would not otherwise want.

If so, why do you think you (or other person) failed?  Bad assumptions?  Unexpected event?

I over extended myself in Early Retirement investing in spec homes. I got stuck with 6 homes in 2013. They are all rented and are some if my best rentals, but I tied up a lot of cash and killed my liquidity.

Not a failure... But not what I planned by any means.

This is a popular question right now apparently.  Here's a thread from 2 days ago.  It's even still on the front page.
