Any ideas on making money P/T online ?
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:58:29 AM »
Has anyone had any success making money working part time online ?

There are some well known ways to make money online, blogging obviously being the main one, but also sites like swagbucks.  I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with anything else. I've heard anecdotally that relatively good money can be paid doing UI testing/reviewing for websites, and then there are sites like fiverr, if you have a skill that transfers.

I'm a techie and I work on a contract basis so I'm often unemployed for a month or two every now and again while I wait for a new contract opportunity to come along.  I've been thinking I should utilise some of this down time to make a bit of money, but I've not really hit on a good idea of how.

Also, if you have tech skills, oDesk.com seems to be a reasonable marketplace.

Whatever combination of tactics you pursue, you should also blog about your journey.  For example take a look at LiveTheNewEconomy.com, where Mike (who also posts here) documents what's working and what's not.

After a couple of years you'll have your online income (whatever you chose), plus you'll have an authoritative website with plenty of advertising & affiliate income.

Swagbucks is easy, not particularly high paying so your hourly wage if you calculate it will not look good but if you consider the wage per unit effort it is very attractive. The best part about it is the easiest way to earn on it is Swagbucks TV, which yoyu can just have running in the background while you do anything else on the computer. So you can use it to earn money while doing things you would have to do anyway (email, MMM, check the news?) or double up your earning efforts by using another method of making money online and have Swagbucks TV in the background.

I've managed to get to the point where I am covering over 50% of my living costs with money made online. You have a couple options for ways to make money online:

1. Become a content producer and make money from advertising, sponsorships, or donations.

2. sell products or services online.

I Utilize both, but most of the revenue comes from option #1.
In terms of overall options look into:

writing a blog
making youtube videos
writing an ebook
starting a podcast

The key is to focus on a topic that you are actually interested in and excited about. Don't try to do another topic simply because you think it has more mass appeal and will make you more money. You will have much more success with a topic you know and love because you will be able to produce better content, and produce more of it.

Honestly that is the single most important thing you can do as a content producer is create content regularly.

If you have any specific questions let me know.
