Hello fellow Mustachians!
I've been a fan of the blog for about a year since a friend introduced me to it, and I have loved everything I have read. It's good to get slapped in the face sometimes by sound advice. Anyway, my girlfriend and I are already living a pretty minimal lifestyle, rejecting most of what is mainstream America. We dont have cable tv, expensive cell phone plans, new cars, and we almost never buy anything new. ever. We are working members at a local CSA, which means we get 6 months of farm fresh produce for only $100 plus working shifts throughout the summer, and participate in purchasing bulk organic foods when possible. I will admit though that our vice is coffee shops, and going out to eat many times per week.
ALSO, most excitingly, we are about to move into our own TINY HOUSE that we BUILT OURSELVES! We are hopefully about a month away from completion, and I must say, it is absolutely beautiful and we can't wait to move in! When our house is done, hopefully we can really be more disciplined about our spending. In total our house is going to cost us about $15,000. About $6k of that is on an airline credit card (with flyer mile rewards), and the other $9k is my hard earned cash.
We earn a pretty modest income; I am a professional carpenter working semi full-time earning around $2,500 per month, and my girlfriend earns around $1,000 per month at a local coffee shop (I wonder why we spend so much on beverages?), and also does massage therapy on the side.
Anyway, that is just a brief summary of our stuff, so I'm sure I will be posting more questions and maybe a Case Study for us in the near future, as we have a *fair* amount of debt (16k?) that we are struggling to pay off. But all in all, life is good, and it's nice to finally register for these forums!
