Looks like I'm only saving $67 today. Usually I save $99 by not buying faster shipping for stuff I don't need to buy and TV I don't need to watch.

Unfortunately, they've disallowed gifts of Amazon Prime this time, so no back door renewals (this is for new Prime members only and it starts today). 

Also, a couple months ago, they changed it such that it's no longer the bargain it was (you could split with 5 people, now it's just 2, and you have to be willing to share cc info).

I find it's good value for my household. For us the movies/TV shows alone are worth the cost, compared to a netflix subscription (let alone cable). From there I consider the free music + free ebooks as icing on the cake.

I'd genuinely like to know how you cover your own entertainment needs for $0 a year. Public Library?

A great many podcasts. This forum. Thinking interesting thoughts. Reading good articles online. Etc. Stuff I do pay for (like NYT subscription--which is also for work and not just entertainment) isn't available with Prime. I don't really watch TV except for the Olympics or something like that which is on free TV.

I got Amazon Prime free for one year when I signed up for an Amex card a few months ago, along with $250 instant cash back. They may still offer that deal?? I must say, it is a nice upgrade to have, I'll likely miss it when my one year free expires. If I didn't already have it, I'd consider paying $67 if I did a lot of buying on Amazon, considering all the perks you get (free 2-day shipping, Amazon video, music, e-books).

My brother shares his account with me, been fine.  But can't use video or e-books.  So I was going to maybe do this.  I have an iPad mini, no kindle, assumed could read free books on there, nope.  I really wanted the video aspect but read so many bad reviews about content, like see 1 episode free, pay for the rest. Or the good stuff, they charge extra.  Think I'll pass, I have more netflx, hulu, cable than anyone could need.  Was excited about the book thing, bummer.  But, duh, I live 3 miles from the library!

My automatic renewal happened right around this deal. I asked customer service if they could apply it to my renewal and they did say they are issuing a credit for the difference. Always worth asking.

Go back to school and get another degree and then you can save $0!  I got Amazon Prime free for 4 years using the student discount . . . .   :-)  Initially, all you needed was a .edu address.  Then, they got a little pickier and wanted picture/scan of student ID card.

If you actually use Prime enough to justify having it, it's probably not worth waiting for the discount... just my $.02.
