Oh the irony. Thread listing order:

Amazon Prime Day
Getting rid of stuff / Clearing out clutter

It is probably a great deal, just thought it was funny.

I am having trouble finding the thread about the instant pot (search function being hinky for me). There was a good thread with recipes and other information. Can someone post the link?

I ordered the pot. I got rid of my rice cooker a while back and hate my slow cooker (needs an upgrade) and the price was right.

Otherwise the prime "deal" mostly look like a clearance bin of random stuff.

Yep, I bought one.  I've had it on my Wishlist for nearly 6 months waiting for a sale.

From the thread title I thought this was granulated cannabis or drone delivery of weed or something.

I found it helps to go to the source! I know, who reads manuals, right?! There's a free downloadable recipe booklet as well as other links to experts in pressure/slow cooking.

Bon Appetite!

I ended up buying one as well.

We tried a plain rice cooker from costco which never heated up so we brought it back.

We always wanted a rice cooker, so also getting the pressure function should be nice.  It looks like it speeds up rice cooking by 30% or so.

We also do a number of grains on the stove, chili (dried beans) from scratch etc.  I'm hoping this will will open a door into some new and easy (quicker) recipes.

I never had Amazon Prime either, but the Instant Pot was available with PrimeNow here, so I signed up for a 1 month Prime trial and used the 'GETITNOW' code for an extra $20 off.

Basically, $50 + tax and it will even be delivered this evening.  Not bad....hopefully.

Yes, I was bummed about that as well.  The last pressure cooker I had was a great size for us and it was 6.5 qt....so I am hoping 6 quart won't seem that different, but we often maxed out our 6.5'er, so if the 8 qt had been on sale I might have been tempted to upgrade on size.

Granulated cannabis would be very useful in brownies!

Mine came on Thursday and I am super in love with it so far. Made the best polenta we've had (I think I tend to get impatient and/or not use enough liquid when I cook it stovetop) on Thursday, and made really delicious not-overcooked salmon last night. Can't wait to keep trying it out! Going to do some "roast" chicken tonight, I think. And see if it can salvage these ancient chickpeas in the cupboard enough to try to make falafel tomorrow.

I've posted this elsewhere, but I'll add it here. I wanted the 8 Qt. and we waited most of the day, hoping it would be added. Finally, Smart Kid says, why don't you buy 2-6 Qt. IPs? It will still be cheaper.

We decided to do that. Then kid says he has a $30 off $150 coupon. We make an order for 2 IPs, a glass lid and then some random kitchen wants to hit the number.  Whoops! Limit 1 IP, and the coupon won't work. Hmmm...
We temporarily have 2 prime memberships. (Smart Kid is a student, and DH took the trial for something he wanted about ten days ago and hadn't cancelled yet.) We ditched all the extras except the glass lid and each of them ordered a 6 Qt. IP.
The next day, SK gets an email from Amazon. "Sorry for the trouble using the coupon, we've credited your Amazon account $30." Amazing.
Had a very busy weekend raising money for the library, but we're going to get them out of the boxes this afternoon. Can't wait. Can't believe I'm saying that about a kitchen appliance, either. Looking forward to see how other mustachians use them in the war against high grocery bills.

A little bit more than that, but relatively simple:

That's the recipe I used, it's been great! I kept trying cheesecloth, but evenutally broke down and bought Nut Milk Bags off of Amazon... The cheesecloth kept shifting in the colander, and meant I was losing about 1/4 of the yogurt down the drain.

Pls don't pressure cook the chickpeas for falafel. Chickpeas should just be soaked overnight then food processed before being seasoned and baked/fried. I made the mistake at first of buying cooked canned chickpeas or cooking them myself for falafel and wondered by the taste/consistency was so off. Yeah, you don't cook the chickpeas at all as a first step.

How does the texture of Instant Pot food compare to slow cooker food?  I don't do slow cooker because I don't like the mushy texture of the food after it has been slow cooked.

I LOVE food from the IP. I find meat in the slow cooker loses a lot of its natural flavour. IP intensifies the flavours and makes everything fork tender.

It can also save food :) The other day we had grilled a very very cheap cut of beef and it turned out too tough and fatty (also overcooked it a bit). The next day, I tossed it in the Instant Pot along with some chicken I was cooking in bbq sauce. The beef turned out insanely delicious. Mmmmm...

I fired my Prime Day Instant Pot up tonight.  Trying Cincinnati style chili.  Normally you simmer and stir for an hour and a half but the Instant pot chili setting is 30 minutes.  We'll see how it turns outs.  The spaghetti is done and waiting.  Think I'll go all out and make it a 5 way!

My wife tried ours out for the first time last night with a pork shoulder. 90 minutes later and it was as tender as it would've been in the smoker for about 8-9 hours.

I'm sold on it after just that one use.

Steel cut oats have been a smashing success so far. Chicken wasn't great, but I think that was my fault for cooking it from frozen and not having it fully submerged in liquid. Oh, and really great brown rice too.

Hmmm, I never fully submerge meat in slow cooker or pressure cooking mode. Isn't that a no-no?

Made IP corn on the cob last night. Four fat ears, four skinny minutes. Internet recipes called for times of two to EIGHT minutes. WTH? Went with 1 minutes per ear, to delicious results.

Apparently for larger pieces, when cooking from frozen, submerging can help prevent the edges from overcooking. I'll try it next time (or I'll defrost my giant bone-in chicken breast first).

I made chicken in my Instant Pot last week and it wasn't completely submerged. I did thaw it out in the fridge overnight before I cooked it though. I made the below recipe but halved it. That meant my chicken was only sitting in approximately 1/2 cup of liquid (salsa). And I used some salsa that was thicker and chunkier than hers.

http://nomnompaleo.com/post/143765161843/pressure-cooker-salsa-chicken-tacos

It turned out fantastic. It wasn't dry at all, was completely cooked (registered with a hotter internal temperature on my meat thermometer than baking in the oven), and was fall apart soft.

I'm going to go crazy tomorrow and make another chicken recipe in my Instant Pot, but this recipe isn't made for a pressure cooker so I'm going to have to do some modifications. Hopefully it goes well!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
