ALDI now accepting credit cards?
« on: November 08, 2014, 11:15:42 AM »
I just paid with a credit card at an ALDI in Minnesota.  I'm not seeing any official announcement on their website or via other sources.  So, perhaps this is some sort of trial in the US.  I saw they changed their policy recently to allow credit cards (as opposed to just debit cards) in the UK.  I'm not sure how I feel about this as I know this was a way they kept prices low.  However, I'll surely take advantage of the rewards points now.

Ours is still either cash or a debit card.

VISA and MC are offering competitive rates to grocery stores compared to the rest of retailers, so ALDI might have found that it is worth their while to try it out and see if there is a corresponding increase in revenue.

Is there a credit card surcharge?

I remember when Aldi started here they used to have a surcharge (maybe 1%) for credit card payments. I don't think they do it anymore.

They do still have the surcharge.

I'm looking at my receipt from earlier today and I'm not seeing a surcharge.  However, oddly, it says "debit card" on the bottom of my receipt even though I paid with credit.

That would be very helpful for me.  I have two new credit cards with rewards bonuses and if I could use them at Aldi I won't have to figure out another way to hit the $1000 requirement for both.

This would be amazing. I can get 5% cash back on groceries with my Sallie Mae card but do most of my grocery shopping at Aldi. My local Aldi did not accept credit the last time I checked.

Well, jsut ask ;) Say you used it in another ALDI, is it possible here?

You will either get a yes or no, and if you dont ask, you will never hear a yes. Just asking could signal interest and increase the chance of getting this option in the future.

Next time I see our very young, very nice store manager I'll mention it.

I'm not seeing any mention of it in a Google search.  I'd rather they didn't and kept prices lower.

In our area, they are accepting Discover only.  Found out yesterday.
