airvoice wireless and google voice
« on: October 22, 2013, 10:00:26 PM »
Hello I have the airvoice wireless $10 a month plan for me and my wife. Which currently saves us $145 a month or $1740 every year from our verizon accounts.

I have now got a different google voice phone number and attached it to my phone and my home phone. My goal is when people call this new number which I'll call my cell phone number now, if I'm at home I can pickup the home phone and not use any minutes.

I can also send a text through google voice for free from my phone thru the google voice app without airvoice charging me. However when I send a text thru google voice app airvoice still charges me. Can I eliminate this charge and if so how?

Also is there a way to call from the cell phone using google voice without airvoice charging me? This would basically be when I'm not at home, because when I'm home I'll just use the house phone which is free.

Thanks!

I dont use the airvoice data. I am wifi only. How do I setup my phone when it calls to use google voice over wifi and not use airvoice minutes? Also can I send a text thru google voice on my phone without airvoice charging me?

When sending texts through the Google Voice app, Airvoice can't and doesn't charge you for texts.  Google Voice texts are done entirely through data, and Airvoice has no idea you're sending a text.  At most, if you're not on wifi, you're using data.  If you're on wifi and using the Google Voice app, there's no way for Airvoice to charge you (and as a person on Airvoice, I am not assessed any charges when texting w/ Google Voice on wifi).

As to how to dial through wifi, depends entirely on your phone.  On Android, there's several options:

On iPhone, there's Talkatone:

I've been using Google Voice in conjunction with Talkatone for voice calls overseas this year.  The sound quality is OK if you have a good wifi connection, otherwise it can be spotty.

I don't have an Airvoice phone but on most Android phones, you can explicitly turn off cellular data; you may need to do this if it'd defaulting to cell data for some applications.
