Adidas or Nike ? or some other brand ?
« on: May 12, 2016, 01:15:59 AM »
Well heres a easy question, whats your favorite brand and what would you chose if you are asked nike or adidas?

Did ou know that Nike is the name of the Greek goddess of victory ? I found out that Nike has better earnings but still is that reflection on quality or ?

They are nicely compared on this site http://www.votacast.com/adidas-vs-nike - you can even vote :D

If you look at their web Nike is waaay better ( my opinion )

http://www.global.adidas.com/
http://www.nike.com/gb/en_gb/

So who has best quality ?

Asic. Hands down.

They're not as flashy as Nike or Adidas, but I think they hold up longer and are more comfortable.

I workout in Vibram Five fingers and have for over a decade now.  I won't wear anything else.

I've never cared about brand.  I get a little sick to my stomach to see both Nike and Adidas.  People buy that crap because of marketing.  It's not better quality and it's all manufactured outside of the US but nearly all of it is sold to US consumer suckas.  I know people who have a dozen pair of gym shoes and never go to the gym.  just really odd to me.

You're trying to get public opinions on expensive brands from a frugalist forum? The answer for most will be "none of the above". There, I just saved everyone's time.

I suspect different brands fit different feet differently. For me personally, Adidas are more comfortable than Nike, but I walk over 100 miles per month and Adidas soles wear out very fast.  Never bought Nike so I can't say how they wear. I've got some Merrell hiking shoes now and they seem to be pretty tough and resistant to wear.

I was hoping this thread would be about which shoes hold up the best over the long run. (Can we hijack it? I walk at least 5 miles a day and in an ideal world, I'm looking for sneakers that can go at least 4000 miles. Replacing sneakers makes me grouchy. I think they should last forever. Looking for suggestions. Thanks!)

Wait, are we talking about their shoes or their shares? :)

I've bought New Balance shoes in plain black (or white) since early last decade. They're comfortable and fit well. I'm not paying $150+ for a pair of crosstrainers in some silly garish colours.

I just  got two nice pairs of Nikes. $8 for both of them.
I wear a small shoe size, and my neighbor's child had grown out of them. Since she grew out of them they weren't worn down.  Good deal.

I don't really care about brand . . . I just buy shoes that fit comfortably for the lowest possible price and then wear them until they fall apart.

I train in Vibram Five Fingers.    If it's too snowy for five fingers I have some zero drop trainers from Merrell.

All that fancy shoe crap gave me horrible plantar fasciitis.    it was originally invented by a guy named Bill Bowerman who worked for Nike.

Athletes were doing fine in their trainers, but Nike couldn't sell enough.

While I try not to care about brands I admit to being a wee bit obsessed with Adidas shoes and socks. My son has always been hard on shoes and from a young age, I bought all different brands from Walmart, Target, Payless, New Balance, Asics, etc etc. Some new, some from thrift stores. The kicker was one year when we spent days shopping for a special pair as a Christmas gift and he chose a pair of Reeboks. Within 2 months, he had worn it through so badly that the sole parted from the upper part. I was so mad!!!

We ended up finding a decent sale at a local Adidas outlet and paid $20 for a replacement. Those actually lasted an entire school year!!! The very first pair ever to do that.

Since then our whole family wears Adidas. I buy them on clearance for $20-30/pair. My $10 Adidas has lasted longer than my $60 Saucony shoes. So overall, I am pretty loyal. I only buy their clothes from thrift stores though. Even on clearance, they are crazy in price.

I'm loyal to no brand, although asics have been good to my feet. I think I have a pair of nike racing flats that were on sale but I can't remember now. If a shoe wears too fast or falls apart (Saucony I owned were TERRIBLE and I will never buy again) I avoid. Never owned Adidas but I love Run DMC.

Go to a real shoe store, get a real fitting that includes a stride assessment (e.g. someplace that evaluates your stride by putting you on a treadmill and has someone well trained enough to evaluate your stride).

Buy subsequent shoes from cheaper places (and/or be a dick and just get the fitting and buy elseware).

F brand loyalty. Get what fits properly and encourages a healthy stride (particularly if you are an over pronater).

For tennis, Adidias Barricade II or V's last longer than any other tennis shoes. I get a pair each year, and they last me a full 12 months of coaching and playing.  Worth the higher price tag.  A few years ago I went to a less expensive pair and they wore out in a month.

Outside of that, I don't care what brand.

Nike has been good to me they seem to last long the ones I have owned.

I did get a pair of Fila from Kohls...soles started to pull apart from bottom in a month.  I repaired them and the rest of the shoe
has held up but I might avoid those in the future.

none until the soles of your old shoes are all the way worn through, and then whichever shoes on slickdeals looks to be the best deal for the type of shoe you want. People talk crap about generic shoes, but the longest lasting boots I ever had were $20 from Wal Mart, I got Timberland boots for my birthday 2 years ago and they are already wore out.

How do you suppose these real shoe stores will stay in business if people continue to use there service for free, but not buy their product?  How will they pay these well trained people you want to rely on?

Lift weights in chuck taylors.  $30, flat shoes for squats and deadlifts.

I have some Nikes that I bought for about $50 that I've been using for 3-1/2 year now.  Probably about ~2000 miles on them (I have separate shoes for mtn biking and again separate shoes for hiking), but the sole is about completely worn through in areas.  My wife recently bought me a pair of Under Armour shoes.  I hope they last a good long time, because I think they were around $55.

Quote

My generic $20 shoes from Target lasted about 4 months before they were falling apart.  Used some "Goop" to glue them back together, but other portions that were not able to be glued fell apart in another month.

I was hoping this thread would be about which shoes hold up the best over the long run. (Can we hijack it? I'd love to know the answer to that one as well.  Especially on an averaged miles per dollar scale.  I'd go with those shoes as long as it is moderately comfortable.
Or you could just deadlift and squat barefoot, no need to spend $30 on shoes just for weight lifting when shoes are not required.

I ran in these for a couple of years and developed a stress fracture in my shin.  Switched back to Asics after that healed and so far so good.  Obviously this is anecdata, ymmv, etc., but I won't go back to those.

Just go ahead and write your paper, this is just a forum of a particular set of people and hardly represent "public opinion" at large.

And neither of those work for me.  Nikes are too narrow.

So... Asics.

Well, if you are surveying people, you want to actually try to get a randomish sample. Yes, you could approach people on the street. You could ask them on the way out of the grocery store. If you want to do it online, though, at least fibd a venue where the express point of the forum is not avoiding the traps of consumerism. Maybe a Facebook survey, to start with.  I am a college professor, and if you surveyed only us, I would mark you down for poor choice an laziness of sampling group.

I've always been a Nike guy through all my years of Track and Cross Country.  They fit me good, I generally like how they look, and I don't have a problem spending $100+ for a pair of shoes that are going to last 5 years.

For weightlifting I wear cheap minimalist slip-ons.  Especially for calf exercises.  I can't stand a thick sole because it's too squishy and I don't get any feedback.  Barefoot?  Maybe at home but never in a gym.  No gym I ever belonged to would even allow it and it's a recipe for plantars warts.

I think your first mistake is not being up-front with us about the purpose of your original post. Why not something like this: "Hi everyone. I'm working on a paper for school (I assume it's for school?) and could use your help. Would you take a 3-minute survey for me about athletic shoe brands?" Or something like that.

Second mistake: when you're doing research, you don't share your own opinion.

Good luck to you.

No gym I ever belonged to would even allow it and it's a recipe for plantars warts.

I have spent decades training in martial arts . . . Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Aikido, Judo, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  All done barefoot . . . never had a problem with plantars warts.

Well I did...so I guess we cancel each other out?

Oh look, data! :D  I know the stress on my feet and types of contact they have with the floor (and even the types of floor) vary greatly between lifting weights, playing sports and MMA sparring/training. But, ya know, you could just wear the same footwear for everything and assume it's all the same...

Seriously don't get why this thread is still here. It checks all the boxes for spam.

1. First time poster needing to get "feedback" on their site that happens to be a sponsored poll for a store/website that sells the very things they are polling about? Check.

2. Poor grasp of proper spelling, sentence structure and/or the English language? Check. (which is ironic since the spammer claims to be writing a paper... they sound like someone that didn't graduate high school)

3. "Opinions" about products that are for sale on said site? Check.

4. Ridiculous reason to post in the first place in a forum that has nothing to do with their subject, and obviously just spamming here due to the volume/activity? Oh my yes. Check.

5. Absolutely no contributions or intention of contributing from the OP to the rest of the forum (other than the posts for this thread) since all they're here for is this particular crap. Check.

I guess we're just lucky! Even spammers open up productive conversations about consumerism.
