My other favorite whiny comment is about the lack of stainless steel appliances. They are more expensive and a pain in the ass to keep clean and fingerprint free. Oh well, maybe a maid is these unrealistic couple's budget too.
I hate stainless - maintenance is such a pain. My last house came with all stainless appliances, and I was so glad to get back to basic white here.
And granite counter-tops - they are so hard - you feel as if every time you put a plate or cup on the counter, it is going to break on contact. Quartz is prettier, more expensive, and just as hard. But even trendier. I like laminate, myself.
One advantage of being in an "ordinary" house in an "ordinary" rural neighborhood - no-one looking to buy a house around here is going to expect fancy. Certainly not this house - not with a gravel driveway, huge detached garage (guy heaven), tractors rumbling by, and a field behind the house ;-) So I can do my upgrades on my schedule, to my taste, without worrying about some purchaser who will expect the moon on a tiny budget.
Non-mustachian story - we sold a large lot in an expensive area to a young couple - his father builds high-end houses, fortunately for them. Because that area has a fairly large minimum size for a house, and they were planning the quartz counters and the stainless appliances, and who knows what else. I didn't say it, but I sure thought they they were putting themselves into a lot of long-term debt for that fancy kitchen.
