A month ago I started reading from the beginning
« on: January 22, 2018, 04:23:26 PM »
Here I am! I finally made it all the way through the blog.

I am ElizaStache, I am the office manager at an engineering lab. I do maybe 1.5 hrs of work, the rest of the time I just dick around on social media and read this blog. I'm actually a little sad it's over. I found this blog via Reddit's r/personalfinance, best choice ever. Up until now I've spent probably 90% of what I make, I was doing decently until I had a medical emergency. I'm aggressively paying that down, and doing what I can to minimize costs. I'm working on indoctrinating my husband. I'm 25, so it's not too late for me to consider retiring at 40/45!

Hope to see you around :)

Welcome!  Getting started is the most difficult part.  Once you have established good money habits, it becomes so much easier and before you know it... FI!

I only wish I caught myself at 25.  You caught it early that is all that matters.  This is a good place to be and most people here will keep you on the straight and narrow.  :)

I hope you're doing ok after your medical issue.  It's great to hear you're about to start whipping the finances into shape.  Hopefully your husband catches on, too.

Good luck on the rest of your journey.  It is amazing to see how much faster you can get to your goals when you stop spending so much!

It's really hard to transition from reading 4-5 posts a day to 2 posts a month.  I recommend spending time here on the forums to combat your inevitable withdrawal symptoms.

Welcome to heaven on Earth, ElizaStache! lol

Making your Mustachian turnaround is so powerful. You've got some great times ahead of you.

I had a similar job 4 years ago. 30% brainless work. 70% free time. I used that free time to read every article on here, and then (after Mustashify-ing my spending) I started using it to learn about and build a small side gig to increase my income and do something I enjoyed more with my time.

That might be a great way for you to further optimize your mustachian path and could also help you get your husband on board.

Yeah MMM is awesome. Document how you do financially, its pretty cool to see how things take off once you join the cult ;).

Soon enough you'll be scoffing at the idea of 45 ^_^.

Thanks everyone!
I feel very welcome and like I do belong here. I’m learning a lot from all the different threads and users. Bike commuting starts in the next 2 weeks when I’ve gotten used to my route and can make it in more than a snails pace. I’ve made about $100 from selling stuff I never use or want. I’m quitting my part time job in retail to go use more on my better paying side gig in the summer and learning new skills.
You’re all lovely people <3

I’m impressed that you went through them all. MMM is definitely THE best but if you get bored I also listen to podcasts like MadFientist and Choose FI and read some Frugalwoods, so if you need something  there’s always more to read and listen too!!

Thanks for the recommendations! Those will helps too.
To be fair, I’ll say that I read 90% of MMM articles, the ones about construction and meet ups were mostly skimmed or skipped. I’m sort of tempted to start again and read through the comments this time :)
I do miss reading the articles all day, but participating in the forums has been very helpful too. It’s nice to see so many different people’s takes and styles on Mustachianism.

Welcome! I'm 26 and grew up in Shoreline! MMM is great and I'm amazed how fast I've been able to build up savings even on a not-very-high salary.
