A little something to celebrate.
« on: June 02, 2023, 08:18:04 PM »
After a long time reading MMM, the forums, and trying to improve our financial future, DW and I can finally say that we will max out our 401ks for the first time ever. We both changed our direct deposits today to hit the full amount and then celebrated with a little dinner. As of this moment, we have hit all 8 steps covered in the Investment Order linked in the forums. We still have close to ten years until we could comfortably FIRE, but we would just be hitting 40 years old at that point.

Thanks to everyone on here who's responded to my questions, challenged my ideas, and generally given solid advice for how to manage our money. This forum has gone all over the place in the past 10 years, but we wouldn't be anywhere near as far without it.

Congratulations! Two maxed 401k plans is a huge chunk of money that will compound nicely!

I'm hoping to be able to max mine out one of these years. Won't happen this year, but maybe next year.

Congrats! I was also 30 when I had what I call my financial epiphany and we started maxing our 401ks. 36 now and planning on downshifting next year and being done by 40.

If we take out our nanny expenses, we just hit FI this month w/ the 4% rule! So who knows, maybe sooner. Hard to comprehend all the options we have at this point!

Excellent, congrats! Automating the savings is the way to go. It's so weird how the psychology works. Hooray for you two doing the thing.
