I'm more interested in how long mr moustache is gonna stick around, considering his blog post frequency has gone through the floor. I guess that could also affect longevity of forum users also.

It would really suck for us if MMM decided to sell this forum to any of the large media companies that would be willing to pay a large amount of money for it. It wouldn't be the same afterwards.

That said, if the site were sold, I'd be happy for MMM. It is his site, and if he wants to cash in he deserves the money.

NICE!

If the only people who came in here to post were ones interested, then the OP doesn't get their question answered.  By James hopping in to say no, he didn't, he helped let the OP know the answer to their question, that there were people that didn't wonder that.  It sure was kind of him to take a moment to answer a question on something he didn't care about.  :)

Eh, there's a difference between saying "no" and "I don't care". There's no need to say more than "no"..."I don't care" comes off pretty badly.

Strangely enough I come here more for the forum than the blog. I love the blog, and I was one of those who read every post from beginning to end when I was starting on this journey, but now I feel he's done enough by building the community, and it's you guys I stick around here for.

I don't even read the blog anymore. I love the forums. I was an avid reader and read for months before I joined. Then work got slow and I read for hours every day for months and months. Now work has picked up again and I'm too busy to read regularly. And the comments from newbs tend to be all the same. but I jump back in now every few weeks and particularly when I'm looking for an answer to another how-to.
I hope people like MDM and Cathy post here forever. They keep me coming back because I feel like I get an education when they post. . And then there are others who give me something new to think about every once in a while.

Page ten! Woot woot!

I was an active member of a television-show-based forum before this one (an ancient comedy show's fan club, not some reality cable crap) and I enjoyed the low-key camaraderie. However, it slowly dwindled and I lost interest. I lurked here for nearly a year before signing up, but it's starting to get to the point where a lot of it is "same old, same old". However, I stay for the semi-Off Topic topics - the social analysis that others have mentioned and the opportunity to get an insight into wildly different lives. The forum does get me down sometimes ("I earn $100k and have it so hard, wah wah wah!") but by and large it's an eye-opening experience. I like the no-holds-barred attitude. One rarely gets that in real life. There are a couple of buttheads around but by and large they are kept in check by the rest of us.

I imagine that there will be a tipping point, though, when the "blah" outweighs the interesting and I'll leave and find somewhere else. Not because I'm abandoning Mustachianism but because that's the way the internet crumbles.

My registration here, posting here, and reading here don't have any correspondance with my financial situation. I follow FIRE principals, but I don't have enough interest in the forums to post much. I do enjoy reading sometimes though, and have been reading daily while I'm on the road for work with not much to do that doesn't involve spending money.

Edit: Didn't realize this was my first post here, could have sworn I'd responded on a topic or two before now.

I wouldn't say "back to consumerism", but I think as we start to read all of posts, the topics tendo to become " more of the same". It has happened to me in other forums around the web.
Yeah exactly. I have slightly aggressively posted and not the same BLAH BLAH BLAH... for example in the military post the considering military paying for
the college we went funnily talking about World War II:)

Look I don't wanna trample on people toes, but my
posts are sometime loaded with point of making arguments or opinions.

I think there are also probably a good amount of lurkers who just check out the forum but never post and are still mustachian.

I am sure that people will come & go based on their interests, needs, etc. I don't think it means that they have reverted to their old ways. I enjoy seeing people change their lives, etc.  At our age our path is mostly set financially but I still enjoy reading the forums.

Created my account in 2012 - most of the time I just lurk here - still drinking the kool aid!

I was extremely active my first year here, active my second year, and now I just pop in occasionally in year 3. As others have said, once you make your adjustments and are on the grind to FI the forums do look a lot like reruns after a while. Good reruns, but the best use of my limited time?

MMM recently commented about how much time he was wasting on his phone and alluded to the fact that forums can consume a whole lotta time.

An old boss once said "take what you need and leave the rest". That's sort of where I am these days when it comes to MMM and the forums. I still read all his blog posts, but the forums just don't command my attention as they once did.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
