3Q14 Savings Rate Checkup
« on: September 30, 2014, 02:07:05 AM »
How are you guys doing so far this year?  This is my first year of adopting the MMM ideas (although we are gradually easing into things) and I wanted to check on my trend and forecast for the year.

Currently for the first 9 months of the year (gross): Savings @ 72.6%
Projection for 2014 (gross): Savings @ 79.5%

My goal for the year was 85%.  I think we fell short because we spent about 5k more on vacations then planned and my repat check came in 1k lower then expected.  Also spent 6k on a car and about 4k on "stuff" for moving to the new country (kitchen supplies, bedding, towels, house set up- all those things we had to get for the first time).  Will get my repat check next month which is why the savings rate will jump so high in the last quarter.

All in all pretty excited because this time last year we were striving for a 25% savings goal.  I think next year I will definately be able to hit the 85% considering I don't have to spend 10k on "necessities" associated with a relocation.

Our plan was for early retirement in June 2017 but re-doing the numbers on a more conservative scale it looks like I will need to remain in this TERRIBLE job until Jan 2018. Hopefully I can last mentally- vacations are the only thing that keep me alive.

Are the rest of you on target/better/struggling for the year?

Sad to hear you hate your job... but at least you're doing great and won't have to stay there much longer :)
My savings rate is around the same (75-90 depending how you count it... unique situation).  After I got on the path to early retirement I got a new job that I love (and pays a lot more too!), but still going to do it, at least to have the option.

I didn't find MMM until July, so my savings rate through the end of September is only about 32%. My savings rate for Q3 is about 51%, and I'm hoping to squeak it a little higher for Q4, but we'll see :)

Awesome!- Isn't it pretty amazing how much you can save and still enjoy your life?  I always believed if you were saving 20% that was AMAZING.  A few life changes and you can pretty easily hit high numbers.

I don't haaaate it....I dislike it and can't do it forever but the good thing is I won't have too :-)
I knew that taking the job though that this was not my passion just a way to get some international travel and free up more time to do what I love most.

We had an abysmal Q3 but our 9 month savings rate is still 68% (net).

That's with 3 kids and gross income of ~$65K.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
