So when I walk my dogs, have a few minutes, I open my Kindle app and will read the highlights from one of these books. I've gone though each book at least a few times, and the quotes that really grab me, are highlighted. So it's only those that I read when I look at each book.
I read the first book when MMM blogged about it a few years ago. The other two have been favorites for years. More and more, as time goes by, I truly believe Stoicism is the best philosophy of life. And even though these 3 books have been books I go back to time and again, it's only recently that I realized the thread that runs through all 3 is that they each are about the Stoic philosophy in their own way. It brought a smile to my face when I finally realized it.
Schopenhauer's main premise of the whole book is not to seek pleasure, but to avoid pain. Schopenhauer was an 18/19th century german philosopher. He does say a few idiotic racist comments, but his overall ideas are powerful.
