Looking to connect to people pre/post FI in the UK
« on: August 03, 2024, 01:57:37 PM »
Hello everyone,

I'm a foreigner living in the UK for the past 5 years. I'm 41, male and married with 2 wonderful kids. I'm a semi retired entrepreneur. I can say I am almost FIRE or maybe I already am but haven't realised it yet!

This is my first ever post on this forum. I've been following Pete for around 5+ years now and am sort of FIRE. I have saved, worked and invested like crazy these past 5 years and since March I am only working once per month. I own an online marketing business which sells supplements in the USA. I am no longer identifying as an business person because I'm done with working my ass off and stressing out.

Another reason is severe burnout (which is not the fun part here). I am still working (once a month) but am not planning to do anything else like starting a blog, podcast, business or write a book about my journey. I just need a break from it all.

One thing I feel is that it's really hard for people in my vicinity to relate to me and I think it would be great to create a monthly (zoom?) meetup with likeminded UK based folks to talk about pre and post FIRE.

Not sure if anyone would like to join this sort of monthly call. Of course this will be free and will just be about connecting with each other, sharing stories and offering support for people on the path to FI or people that are past FIRE and are looking to meet other people.

If this is something you are interested in, let me know and let's see how we can connect.

Have a nice weekend,
Mr. W

Hi @Mr.Worf
Well done on mostly letting go of the work side of things and taking time for yourself. I think @never give up runs a weekly zoom meeting and there are some UK folk on there too, in csae you fancy that.

Thanks @Jade! it seems like this is not a popular thing. I am new here and was eager to connect with people. I just started a journal which will hopefully be a good way to connect to more people on the forum from different places in the world.

I will look into for @never give up and see what he's up to with Zoom calls and hopefully join that one :)

That's ok @Mr.Worf. I was just thinking the other day how some of my posts here get lots of replies (I just posted a question on ask a mustachian about growing your hair out to grey that's had some engagement) and others just sit there .. so it's definitely not personal. I haven't got a journal but it seems a good way to meet others here too. I started seeing a lot of the same names on the UK board and on a few of the journals like @never give ups so you might find the zoom chat helpful too if it is still going. Where's your home country?

Hi hi - I only just spotted this.  I think a lot of us here just follow various journals and only check the wider boards every so often, so it's easy to miss things.  There is a thread in my signature of UK journals, if you start one and want to add it there that would be great and should make it easy for fellow UK FIRE people to find you!  The UK Fire folks here are not many but are friendly!

Yeah definitely makes sense @Jade! I started having grey hair around 10 years ago :) It's in my genes now almost full grey with some black still on the top. Thanks for commenting on my journal. It's nice to see people are actually reading my post.
