London Meetup W/c 4th Nov?
« on: October 14, 2019, 02:33:13 PM »
Hello, I'm going down to Sussex for a few days, week commencing the 4th Nov, and will probably be making a trip into that there London. Anyone want to meet up? Day-time or evening, although I'll need someone to suggest a venue if we want anything any more interesting (and frugal) than a pub or coffee shop picked at random from Google. I can be somewhat flexible, but Wednesday looks best for me, and I can't do Thursday evening at all. London Bridge/ Victoria/ Central Line areas all work. Axe murderers need not apply.

Can I vote for a daytime, then I can come with ToddlerSLTD? Would Green Park area be alright for you? I'm happy to figure out a good coffee shop/pub-type place if so, and am basically free all week.

Daytime near Green Park would be good. Some time on Wednesday afternoon? (Not sure if ToddlerSLTD is still napping in the afternoon, so happy for you to set a time.

And if people can meet up early evening too, I can kill some time in between an afternoon meet up and an evening one... (hint, hint, @never give up ...)

This is on Wednesday 6th, yes? Would half two be alright, and I'd need to be on my way around four? ToddlerSLTD's nap is out of sync with literally every other toddler on the entire planet at the moment, and naps late morning.

Other suggestions welcome, but there's a Caffe Nero on Stratton Street (the street opposite Green Park - stand with your back to the entrance to the park, and there's an M&S on the corner of the street, I think) which is close and simple. W1J 8LN.

I have short dark hair, glasses, a blue buggy, a blonde toddler, and a large sharp axe.

Fab, well, except for the axe bit. I don't want to have to carry my firewood on the tube... Can't remember if you already know my IRL name from when you sent us tomato seeds, illm PM it to you along with my mob number.

Anyone else free to join us?

Do we want to decide on the exact location over PM? I’m conscious we may be besieged with groupies wanting to meet both of you if the location is public :-)

You've hatcheted a plan for probably the only day in November that I can't make :-(

Is the idea to go round Fortnums & Masons, the Ritz and other Mayfair palaces of conspicuous consumption afterwards and silently mock?

I could do any weekday that week except Tuesday. It would be axe-citing if more people could make it!

Moving home that week!  From Glasgow to Exeter, Devon - where our grandkids live.  At least I’m nearer London for any future meet-ups...

Jan 16th 2018.

Wow. That’s either a superpower or a super use of a diary.  Either of which I don’t have. I did, however, buy new pyjamas. Thank you for the indirect prompting!

Argh! See, this is why I don't organise things! SLTD can do any day but Tuesday, I can now only do Tuesday or Wednesday, and Wednesday is still best. Since SLTD was the first to take me up on the suggestion, it would be mean to ditch her on Wednesday. So sorry folks, but I'm going to stick to Weds and hopefully get to meet up with the rest of you some other time.

Alas I have no super powers. The meet up thread is on page 4 of the UK Tax Board :-)

Congrats on the pyjamas!

Thank you for organising a meet-up. You are doing what many of us lurkers never quite achieve, and you’re right to stick to your original (emerging) plan.

NGU and I are just being the Awkward Squad - we’d love to meet up, are grateful that somebody far more organised is getting on with it, and will keep eyes peeled for the next one ...

OK, it's confirmed, we have moved the London meetup location to a secret address for NGU's safety from the hordes of wannabe MILs who follow him.  PM me, NGU or SLTD if you would like to join us from 2:30 on the 6th Nov, or let me know if you are available in the evening of the 6th.

I'd love to meet up that evening for a drink - however, I only finish my last teaching session at around 7:15. Let me know if that isn't too late, would be so exciting to meet someone from here in real life.

Hi @KathrinS , I'm hoping to meet up with @Kwill at some time around 5-6ish (not sure whether @shelivesthedream or @never give up will be able to make it yet) we're going to be around the King's Cross area, we haven't decided exactly where or when yet. Would that work for you? At some point I will need to get something to eat, too, to soak up some of the coffee we will have been paying our rent with during the afternoon. Anyone know of anywhere good?

ETA - if you know of anywhere good please PM us, or else NGU will tell me off again. I think he is in league with Mr SLTD as a Bond Villain/International Man of Mystery. (Sorry NGU...)

PTF because I'm actually going to this one, and if I don't follow the thread, I might find that the location has changed from secret location X to public location Y and back to secret location Z before moving about to public locations ABC. Looking forward to meeting people in real life.

I’m so sorry MarcherLady. I didn’t mean to tell you off. I feel awful. Please accept my apologies. We’re all wearing disguises though right? I was going to come as Zorro.

I could only do weekends or evenings (from 19:00, and only when I don't have an early shift the next morning)...

King's Cross area would work well for me, that would only be 4 stops away from where this client lives, so I could make it within maybe 20 minutes of the end of my lesson.

Your pyjamas look like they've been on the receiving end from Zorro?

It's starting to look like I may be able to turn up in the afternoon after all.

@Kwill, now you are one of the secret meetup gang we will PM you before we change the location to 15 Bookes Street... ah dammit, I've done it again.

@never give up  - you know I'm only kidding - you are right to suggest we should keep our location private. Although I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I seem to have planned it so that you and I will be alone together while we travel from secret location A to secret location B, and no one else will know where we are. Dun, dun, duuuuun. Am I the axe murderer, or are you??? Maybe it's both of us! Who will survive?

Zorro outfits are very acceptable though.

@Vashy  it's looking like we'll still be around by 7 on the 6th if you can get to the Kings Cross area. We still haven't decided on a location.

@KathrinS & Cerat0n1a, good news, since we still haven't exactly worked out where we will be after 5, the best plan might be if we all exchange phone numbers and we'll do it over text?

I might make it if I get the right sort of shift, then. (I'm near Bank, so not too far...)

Aw shame. It's looking like I might have a few overnights in London later in Nov (mid week, usually), so hopefully we might get another chance.

Aw, So sorry @AnswerIs42 - I didn't see this until just now.

@shelivesthedream , @never give up, @cerat0n1a & @Kwill , thanks for the meet up, it was great to finally put faces to the names, even NGU who entered and left and reentered the cafe before we realised he was looking for ToddlerSLTD who was at home asleep.

28600 steps! Two cancelled trains later I got back to the hotel at 10:30, I'm drinking tea and just about to call it a night!

Hey all, this isn't another meetup date, but when we were trying to get together in November we struggled to find a mustachian venue. I have just found details of a venue in London that is free to enter, and where you can buy food and drink, but also bring in your own if you prefer. ie much better than I managed to find last month.

Since I know some people value their privacy a lot more than I apparently do, I won't post it, but if anyone is planning another get together, drop me a PM and I'll share the details...
