February goals
« on: January 31, 2025, 01:31:15 PM »
What's everyone's goals for February?

I have a year-long goal:
    - 100 times to the gym
    - 100 hours of cardio (walking/cycling)
    - 100 books tried (this includes books I've tried for at least 20 pages and then quit)
    - 100 hours of writing
    - 100 hours of drawing

This comes down to roughly 9 a month each. Current standing:
Gym: 10
Cardio: 9
Books: 15
Writing: 1
Drawing: 2

In February I will continue gym and cardio as usual (9 each). Last month was a reading binge, finishing 12 books and 3 Did Not Finish (after at least 20 pages). I'll set my goal to 3 books so I can focus on drawing and writing (let's shoot for 16 each).

I participated in the January goals thread, which is the first time I have done it. It was helpful! So I figured I’d do February, too.

Feb goals:

1) Dry February. I did dry January, which I consider a success. I did drink 3 times during that month (on some social occasions) but I think that’s fine, so I’ll basically do the same thing this month, and if I have a drink or two with friends I won’t judge myself too much for it.

2) I plan to take the month of Feb to log all of my food in a calorie and macro counting app. I’d like to lose a few pounds and I know from past experience that this is the best way for me to do it. (I also weigh myself every day, which is great for me to keep myself accountable but also to not freak out about daily fluctuations.)

I weigh 141 right now, and I’m hoping that by the end of Feb I will be regularly weighing in the 130s.

Feeling hopeful about this month, but still trying not to overdo the goals.  We'll see how this goes.

Work Related:
-Attempt to make a five year plan
-Look at potential jobs at least once a week

Creative:
   -Complete new embroidery project
-Play piano at least once a week

Health:
-Exercise at least once a week
-Schedule at least one hangout with a friend, or at least try in case people are busy and no one can.
-Follow No-S diet for 15 days
-Make schedules/to do lists for days without in person work, done at least the day before

Household:
-Do at least two decluttering sessions in the basement
-Make all school lunches, no buying without planning in advance (pizza days)-
-Do more than half (5/9) of the monthly chores, focusing on ones that haven't been done in a while

I am repeating a lot from January, that I just have to do, and I think it will absolutely be possible w/better planning:

  • Sleep more. At least seven hours at least four nights a week. I really need this and it should be easier once bedroom is completed.
  • Go to the gym eight times. At least four running and then add strength sessions.
  • Swim two times. One of them should be either the fancy pool just near my office or the pool on my way home from work.
  • Go for a walk for at least ten minutes every day. This is just laziness if I don't get it completed.
  • Yoga & stretching at least three times a week, at least ten minutes every day.For Feb, this means 12 sessions. Same, not completing would be due to laziness and lack of planning.
  • Continue getting rid of stuff/sorting out the apartment. Once bedroom remodel is completed, I will have a lot more space, and then I want to make a big push to make this a really good place. Need to save my living room from all the stuff.
  • Finalize with my bedroom. Push painter friend slightly. Make sure I get invoices so I can pay everything. Decide on lamp, shelf and rug. Decide on and hang hooks. Possibly get a small stool. Painting?
  • Eat better. Starting February at 74.9 kilograms. End at least one kilo less so want to end at 73,9 or lower. Log food on MFP.
  • Plan the weekends w/the kids. Indoor pool or other.
  • Start planning this years garden/plant some tomato and pepper seeds.
  • Sort out the bank/mortgage situation. It's gettin a bit ridiculous but bank has promised they will be final on the 4th, I might have to wait until 5th to see it online. Then pay off the other loan asap and cancel the extra insurance. After that, redo the monthly budget and rethink savings goals.
  • Some Italian progress every day. Make sure I am aware of all the deadlines and be ready well before them.

I track with colors:
Green: completed
Blue: progress/on track
Orange: at risk/behind
Red: did not complete

Reporting for first nine days. It started well, but then I got sick with a cold, not too bad but no energy and not sleeping well. Still coughing and stuffy nose but no fever.

  • Sleep more. At least seven hours at least four nights a week. I managed two nights but only bc I have been sick and slept in.
  • Go to the gym eight times. At least four running and then add strength sessions. I have been once for running and once for strength, both good sessions. Now I have to wait until I am well again.
  • Swim two times. One of them should be either the fancy pool just near my office or the pool on my way home from work. None yet, and this may be hard bc I have been sick. Probably not next week either unless I can get the kids to join.
  • Go for a walk for at least ten minutes every day. Not on sick days, but those are excused.
  • Yoga & stretching at least three times a week, at least ten minutes every day.For Feb, this means 12 sessions. Three so far, have done "slow-yoga-before-bed".
  • Continue getting rid of stuff/sorting out the apartment. Once bedroom remodel is completed, I will have a lot more space, and then I want to make a big push to make this a really good place. Two big items on FB give away, no takers yet, but it's only been a day. Otherwise waiting for this not to be a building site.
  • Finalize with my bedroom. Push painter friend slightly. Make sure I get invoices so I can pay everything. Decide on lamp, shelf and rug. Decide on and hang hooks. Possibly get a small stool. Painting? Painter friend has been here a lot. He says he may finished tomorrow. Have paid first invoice (handyman + electrician). I need to sort out lamps but the rest will have to wait, maybe until next month.
  • Eat better. Starting February at 74.9 kilograms. End at least one kilo less so want to end at 73,9 or lower. Log food on MFP. Not perfect bc sick, not logging. Was lower but currently at 74.9. Feel ok about it bc I have been eating well.
  • Plan the weekends w/the kids. No progress yet.
  • Start planning this years garden/plant some tomato and pepper seeds. This has to wait until after bedroom is finished and living room back to normal. But I will find out tomorrow if I have any soil at all, otherwise I will buy.
Mortgage is transferred. The other loan is paid in full. Waiting for confirmation from insurance company.
  • Some Italian progress every day. Make sure I am aware of all the deadlines and be ready well before them. Not behind but need to print some things when I am back in office later this week. I have made good progress with essay due Tuesday and expect to hand in tomorrow.

I have kind of been lacking on my push up goal. I need to check in and acknowledge that and start doing some of them in the morning when I wake up.

Slightly late first week update:

Self-Care:
1. Read 4 books (include DNFs) - 4/4
  a. 1 from TBR - Just started
  b. 1 Sequel - 1/1

Frugality:

5. "Consumables" under $700 - 133/700
6. Cooking
  a. Bake bread at least twice - 2/2, we ate that first batch way too fast. These days I only make recipes that make 2 loaves because we go through it!

Social:
12. Museum Trip - Done!
13. Opera - Cancelled for illness
14. Pre-Valentine's Lunch Date - Sort of done, we couldn't go where we planned but we made the best of it

@Raenia you're doing really well!

Thanks! My productivity tends to come in bursts, especially with cooking. And two of those books were super short, 1-day reads. And Bub is finally not as sick, so I actually had free time!

I really need to get on the garden planning, though. Last year I missed the window to order the berry bushes (black currant) we wanted, I can't risk missing it again but also can't order without a plan for getting them in the ground promptly.

Ten day check-in on my goals:

1) doing damp February: loosely defined as having a drink when I go out if I want, but otherwise not. Have been doing pretty well, though I did have a drink Saturday evening at home. Feeling okay about this.

2) Logging my food and macros: I have… not been doing this, lol. The rise of fascism in the US made the first part of this month a little rough. But I’ve been making political calls daily during the week, which has helped my mental health, so today I finally started tracking. So far so good.

3) Goal to be under 140 by the end of the month? Stay tuned…

Reporting for second week. Was sick but better, but low energy. I'm good now, but work is not great. I have actually started looking for a new job/company, no action yet though.

  • Sleep more. At least seven hours at least four nights a week. One night only this week.
  • Go to the gym eight times. At least four running and then add strength sessions. I have only been once for a mix of running and strength. Will give myself a pass for the week due to illness.
  • Swim two times. One of them should be either the fancy pool just near my office or the pool on my way home from work. None yet. The kids refused to join.
  • Go for a walk for at least ten minutes every day. Not on sick days, but those are excused. This has been close to failure but I will give myself a pass for now.
  • Yoga & stretching at least three times a week, at least ten minutes every day.For Feb, this means 12 sessions. None this week so still three so far.
  • Continue getting rid of stuff/sorting out the apartment. Progress! I have started "the big push to make this a really good place". The two big items on FB give away are now gone, feels great. DS1 asked me to help sorting out his room and he got rid of so much. I want to persuade DS2 to do a smaller clean up of his room together with me. The coming week they will be at their dads and I will continue in the living room. I do have to take care of some paint cans and other stuff so I need to go to the dump, maybe on Wednesday.
  • Finalize with my bedroom. Push painter friend slightly. Make sure I get invoices so I can pay everything. Decide on lamp, shelf and rug. Decide on and hang hooks. Possibly get a small stool. Painting? Painter friend has finished, it looks really nice. Have paid first invoice (handyman + electrician) and will pay second (final) invoice tonight. The ceiling lamp is in place. DS1 did not want his bedside lamp anymore, so that's mine for now (I bought it and its a style I really like). Shelf and rug will have to wait, not sure I want a rug at all. I hope to go to Ikea this week to buy some nice storage boxes.
  • Eat better. Starting February at 74.9 kilograms. End at least one kilo less so want to end at 73,9 or lower. Log food on MFP. I was a bit higher due to sickness but this morning back at 74.9. I have not been eating well but hope to do better now. I really want to find the energy to start logging again.
  • Plan the weekends w/the kids. This weekend has been crap. Way to much screen time for us all.
  • Start planning this years garden/plant some tomato and pepper seeds. This has to wait until after bedroom is finished and living room back to normal. I need to buy soil so I can start, hope to do that the coming week.
The loans are ok, but the insurance situation is not. Still no confirmation from insurance company, I have to escalate this.
  • Some Italian progress every day. Make sure I am aware of all the deadlines and be ready well before them. The short essay was handed in on time and got good enough marks. Next one is to write about a person, I haven't decided who yet, but there is more than a week until deadline, and it should be short as well. I have however, not studied the grammar that is due for Tuesday class, I really need to make some progress.

DD and I got super sick last week, so not too much progress was made.  But considering that, there wasn't too much backsliding either.

Work Related:
-Attempt to make a five year plan
-Look at potential jobs at least once a week-actually yes, but haven't found anything interesting

Creative:
   -Complete new embroidery project-nope
-Play piano at least once a week-nope

Health:
-Exercise at least once a week-glad I did twice a last week, since I did nothing this week
-Schedule at least one hangout with a friend, or at least try in case people are busy and no one can.-nope, barely even looked at my phone
-Follow No-S diet for 15 days-technically good I guess, since I barely ate for three days?  But I did two before I got sick
-Make schedules/to do lists for days without in person work, done at least the day before-still haven't been following this one

Household:
-Do at least two decluttering sessions in the basement-no movement here
-Make all school lunches, no buying without planning in advance (pizza days)-so far, so good
-Do more than half (5/9) of the monthly chores, focusing on ones that haven't been done in a while-still nothing on this or the seasonal ones yet, but the daily stuff isn't horribly behind, so I count that as a win
-Do 2 (out of 6) Seasonal chores
-Use up something from the freezer at least once a week.-two things from the freezer last week, and a couple boxes of pasta used up

-use 3-5 obscure (to me) food items/week --ashwaganda, motherwort, adzuki beans, porcini mushrooms
-plan 1-2 novel social engagements-- friend visited last week and an acquaintance is here so we may try to ski together on thursday

Welp, I think I’m probably out for my February goals, as DH convinced me to do a sorta last-minute trip to Aruba to escape the cold. So I’ll continue this when I get back and make them my March goals instead.

@Raenia, yes, I'm also a bit confused, but I call it week three as well.

I will do a quick update, went to the gym late and I have to shower and hurry to bed (10.30 pm here).

Still a bit low energy beginning of week. Lots of work. Went on a sort of date but knew already before that this was only friendship. He may want more, but I was very clear already before we met. We have a hobby in common so dinner was a lot about talking about that. It was nice and we had fun.
Then a slow weekend. I just realised that I should have written a short italian essay to hand in Tuesday. Will do some tomorrow and then I only work half day Tuesday so should be ok.

  • Sleep more. At least seven hours at least four nights a week. Three nights this week! Best in a long time!
  • Go to the gym eight times. At least four running and then add strength sessions. I just got back from my best gym workout in a long time! Some running and then I increased the weights on several exercises. I feel strong.
  • Swim two times. One of them should be either the fancy pool just near my office or the pool on my way home from work. Still nothing, have not prioritized it.
  • Go for a walk for at least ten minutes every day. Not perfect but good enough. Need to track everything better.
  • Yoga & stretching at least three times a week, at least ten minutes every day. For Feb, this means 12 sessions. None this week either, the place is such a mess so there is no good spot to place the mat. Still three so far.
  • Continue getting rid of stuff/sorting out the apartment. I didn't go to the dump, didn't have time/energy during week, and during weekend the line is long. But I'm off a few days next week so it should be ok then. I did take a lot of cardboard and plastic to the close-by recycling station, so I 'm good for now.
  • Finalize with my bedroom. Push painter friend slightly. Make sure I get invoices so I can pay everything. Decide on lamp, shelf and rug. Decide on and hang hooks. Possibly get a small stool. Painting? Paid painter. Went to IKEA w/sis and did some smart shopping. Will return a towel bc strange colour, I bought one to try how it looked and it wasn't good.
  • Eat better. Starting February at 74.9 kilograms. End at least one kilo less so want to end at 73,9 or lower. Log food on MFP. 74.4 this morning and I have started logging again. To me, the logging makes all the difference.
  • Plan the weekends w/the kids. I have some loose plans for next week. I am off from Tuesday lunch. Will need to think more about this tomorrow, kids will come to me tomorrow night after dinner. Tuesday will be screen day.
  • Start planning this years garden/plant some tomato and pepper seeds. I have bought some soil and will plant a few things coming week.
Finally some reply regarding the insurance. I need to clairfy one thing and then I can cancel the other insurance.
  • Some Italian progress every day. Make sure I am aware of all the deadlines and be ready well before them. I am behind. I was not aware of the Tuesday deadline. I need to be better informed about the dates.

I track with colors:

Blue: progress/on track

I have been slacking on my pushups. I am going to squeeze them into my running routine. I will do some before and after to try and stack habits.

This week flew by so fast that it feels like we're still at the beginning of last week.  DD had a day off from school and several 2-hour delays, so everything was discombobulated.  Hoping this last week will be a bit better.

Work Related:
-Attempt to make a five year planstarted brainstorming
-Look at potential jobs at least once a week-found and applied for two, pretty proud of this one

Creative:
   -Complete new embroidery project-nope
-Play piano at least once a week-once for a little bit

Health:
-Exercise at least once a week-did a one mile walk Thursday
-Schedule at least one hangout with a friend, or at least try in case people are busy and no one can.-going to text a friend tomorrow
-Follow No-S diet for 15 days-I'm at 11, so I need to do most of the days left in the month
-Make schedules/to do lists for days without in person work, done at least the day before-only did once

Household:
-Do at least two decluttering sessions in the basement-no movement here
-Make all school lunches, no buying without planning in advance (pizza days)-so far, so good
-Do more than half (5/9) of the monthly chores, focusing on ones that haven't been done in a while-got 4 of these done and cleaned the main floor in anticipation of guests
-Do 2 (out of 6) Seasonal chores
-Use up something from the freezer at least once a week.-one lunch and one breakfast for DD

Weekly update

- -complete online course (starts in 3 days and will run through the month) --mostly caught up. some assignments to mull and then complete

-low-spend month (prioritize stashing money into RRSP, use cash for groceries)--all good (except for food & dog treats which all seem to be increasing exponentially in price)
-use 3-5 obscure (to me) food items/week --beetroot powder, collagen powder, motherwort, holy basil, artichoke leaf
-plan 1-2 novel social engagements-- skied with an acquaintance and may meet up again with him & his child tomorrow
-2 online breathwork/yoga sessions per week--nope--my weak spot for sure!

Final update, a bit late as I have been travelling. The kids hade the week off, which made for non-routines week and we visited both sets of parents, which always is a bit stressful for me.

  • Sleep more. At least seven hours at least four nights a week. I did sleep for than seven hours some nights, so better than usual, but not consistent and not on weeknights so not good enough.
  • Go to the gym eight times. At least four running and then add strength sessions. I was ill beginning of month, and then I hurt my toe so I couldn't run or use my foot but still could have done better.
  • Swim two times. One of them should be either the fancy pool just near my office or the pool on my way home from work. Not at all.
  • Go for a walk for at least ten minutes every day. Not perfect but I will give myself a pass on this one. did a lovely hike w/DS1 yesterday.
  • Yoga & stretching at least three times a week, at least ten minutes every day. For Feb, this means 12 sessions. Nope, have not prioritized.
  • Continue getting rid of stuff/sorting out the apartment. Not complete but so much progress.
  • Finalize with my bedroom. Push painter friend slightly. Make sure I get invoices so I can pay everything. Decide on lamp, shelf and rug. Decide on and hang hooks. Possibly get a small stool. Painting? So much progress. Just decorating and sorting things left.
  • Eat better. Starting February at 74.9 kilograms. End at least one kilo less so want to end at 73,9 or lower. Log food on MFP. I was at 74,6 this morning, bc of stress and travelling/eating at my parents. But I did weigh in on 73,9 and 73,6 before the trip so I'm good. Meaning March goal will be 72,6.
  • Plan the weekends w/the kids. Way too much screen time... but it has been good food and good conversations at least.
  • Start planning this years garden/plant some tomato and pepper seeds. I have bought soil, no planting yet but good enough.
Still haven't cancelled the other insurance bc have not had time to call from a quiet place, but everything else is sorted.
  • Some Italian progress every day. Make sure I am aware of all the deadlines and be ready well before them. Should be better.

Too much red, but I understand why. Coming week I will find out what resouces we have at work for seeing a therapist.
Happy about the weight. Not perfect eating but absolutely good enough. Still overweight but heading in the right direction, not near the obese category anymore.
So much progress at home. Excited for March and even more progress.

I feel like I'm consistently not meeting the goals I'm setting.  But I can't figure out if I'm setting the bar too high or if I'm just not trying hard enough.  Or maybe a bit of both?

Work Related:
-Attempt to make a five year plan-did pretty decent brainstorming on this, will continue to refine in March
-Look at potential jobs at least once a week-did this pretty consistently

Creative:
-Complete new embroidery project-only drew pattern
-Play piano at least once a week-only did twice

Health:
-Exercise at least once a week-exercised three times and went dancing one night, so on average not bad
-Schedule at least one hangout with a friend, or at least try in case people are busy and no one can.-between being busy and sick, I didn't get to this one.  But I did bump into and chat with a friend at church twice
   -Follow No-S diet for 15 days-got to 14
-Make schedules/to do lists for days without in person work, done at least the day before-only did three times

Household:
-Do at least two decluttering sessions in the basement-no movement here
-Make all school lunches, no buying without planning in advance (pizza days)-Did this one again, probably the goal I'm best at achieving
-Do more than half (5/9) of the monthly chores, focusing on ones that haven't been done in a while-stalled, so only got 4
-Do 2 (out of 6) Seasonal chores-partially did two, so that's progress
-Use up something from the freezer at least once a week.-hit this one, but also put a bit of new stuff in

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
