Run EVERY DAY until 12/31/2014
« on: July 29, 2014, 01:48:45 PM »
Challenge: Run every day until 12/31/2014.

Gauntlet Specifics:
- 156 days total (if you start today).
- Minimum of 1 mile per day.
- Don't put yourself in danger, obviously. Meaning, if it's raining: go running. If there's lightning: wait a bit. Same goes for injuries, sickness, etc.

Reasoning: My financial house is in order, so now it is time to focus on fitness!

Note: I happen to like running, but if it's not for you, that is okay! If you still want in, you can absolutely substitute another daily physical activity, like walking, burpees, or push-ups! Just set your minimum and go!

Who's in?!

I'm in!! I have been running nearly daily for....ever but like the challenge part. Already did my longish (8 mile or so)  morning run so guess that's one day down - 155 more to go :-)!

All right!! There's something fun about making it a challenge and committing publicly! I'll be posting every day for accountability. Feel free to do the same!!

I wish I had seen this yesterday.  Perfect timing for me to get back into my running routine.  Between work and travel, I doubt every single day is possible, but look forward to trying and encouraging everyone.

7/30/2014
2.5 miles
streak 1 day

Since 7/29/2014
1/2 days run
2.5 miles total

You can do it, Hvillian!! I needed the motivation to get back into my running routine, too. With the accountability of the forum, I feel like this could be life-changing! I look forward to your updates!!

Day 2/156
(Wed - 7/30/14)

2 miles!

(fyi -- I am going to switch to posting my progress every 1 to 2 weeks so I stop bumping my own thread up so obnoxiously.)

I would suggest running every other day instead. You need to give you body time to heal from running, especially if you are new to running.

I don't know - I generally run everyday (sometimes twice a day - morning and evening) and have for years and it's never been a problem. I do stick to trail running for the most part and I think that helps a lot. Or asphalt rather then concrete if I can't run on my local trails. But I do agree that for people just starting out, taking a break every other day (doing something else physical instead) is probably a good thing until your body adapts.

Been taking it easy this week as we are having a heat wave so only a few miles in the a.m.

I'm in!  1 mile isn't a big deal to me, but it would be a nice way to start my day.

Good advice! I'm glad you posted it.

For me, I have been running since I was 14, with some breaks to dabble in other sports. I have a solid foundation, but I've just been super lazy lately. Hence the challenge! :)

At first yes, rest is extremely beneficial however once you start running regularly especially if you are running with a minimalist style shoe you will find that running is the most natural of human motions we were meant to run! So run every day if it pleases you

Ran 1.5 miles this morning

I think my dog is enjoying the morning run instead of the regular walk.

Not a runner, but good luck to all! I'm on attempt number 2 for my bike 365 days in a row challenge, so I can appreciate what you're trying here :)

Update:

After one week, I'm 7/7 thus far! Total mileage is 9 miles, which is admittedly low, but my only goal is to get out there every day, and so far so good! I'll post my next update in two weeks.

I hope everyone is kicking ass!

Good work bekkah.  And thanks Thegoblinchief for the encouragement.  Good luck with your biking.

Since 7/30/2014
6/6 days run
10.65 miles total

Streak up to 6 days, and should be 7 by tonight.  I would have skipped at least two of those days if not for this thread.
Mileage feels pathetic, but my knees feel okay.   And it really just feels go to get outside and do it, even if only for 8-10 minutes some days.

I'm 5 days in.  I feel good.  I've started running without my watch (GPS and regular), and it feels great!  I run the pace I want and by feel.  My runs are much shorter than when I was running 2-3 times/week, but I'm happy with the change.

Good work, and glad you are enjoying the watch freedom.  There is something liberating about prioritizing just running 1 mile a day.  Pace and distance are secondary.  Keep it up.
