Unfortunately I have a habit of constantly switching between various todo-lists. Maybe the public aspect of posting my goals here for everyone to read creates a stronger commitment than usual. Furthermore, I didn't have a weekly/monthly todo list, but I guess it might improve my productivity quite a bit. Thus, I'll give this thread a shot for at least a month!

Meta-discussion aside, here's my todo list for May (will probably add a few things in the upcoming days).

  • Very unmustachian, but as I've explained in my journal, I plan to buy quite a bit of sport equipment; hopefully there are at least some sales this month
    • tennis racquet + tennis shoes - 150€
    • cycling shorts + cycling top - 200€
    • hiking boots -100€
    • Optical sunglasses 100€
  • Replace bike brakes on my MTB bought online, apparently my bike is too old (2006) for my local bike shop to have its spare parts
  • Buy 3 more chairs for my flat from local version of craigslistDone, 25€ for 3 nearly-new comfy seats
  • Finish programming a birthday present for a friend
  • Read > 200 pages in my math book (till page 360)
  • Insert shelf in my cupboard

(I'm not sure why completed is not green, but for the sake of consistency I chose to go with your default color scheme.)

I used the color scheme my boss wants on our work trackers, because I'm used to it now.  Feel free to use whatever colors you like, or no color at all!  Everyone who uses these monthly thread picks their own method.

Hoping for a more productive May:

(1) Taxes!
(2) Stretch 3/week
(3) baby book for first year
(4) Finalize life insurance
(5) take son camping
(6) reserve anniversary trip for next year (using points)
(7) get rain barrels connected
(8) meet an old work colleague for lunch
(9) work out of a coffee shop for an entire morning
(10) have drinks with my gay friends

Everything here is a rollover from April and most are not finance-related.  I'm holding off on making any financial moves until I understand our tax situation.

Just keeping swimming, folks!

1.a. Catch up on the housework by 5/7
1.b. Keep up with it for the rest of the month.
2. Go for a twenty-minute walk or spend half an hour mowing my mother's lawn at least every third day all month.
3. Keep my grocery-and-misc spending to a $60 week one, $65 week two pattern all month.
4. Keep hunting for a second job.
5. Practice an instrument for at least twenty minutes at least every third day.
6. Practice Spanish on Duolingo for at least five minutes every day.

That seems like too many new habits for one month, but what the heck, I'll be ambitious.

Here are mine, some are continuing what I started in April:

1. Lose at least 2 pounds
2. Continue my AF streak started in early April (for at least a few more days)
3. Read at least 2 books (I have to read a lot for work, so I'm not great at reading in my spare time, but do enjoy it)
4. Aim to move more (haven't decided if I'll measure this through a daily step count, number of intense exercise sessions or # of days I get out for a walk).

Late as always, just did my final update for April.

In April I said

April will be two separate parts for me, 1) during continued bathroom renovation and 2) after renovation is completed (when builders have left the building :-) ). I hope it will switch over somewhere around mid-month, possibly weekend April 17th-18th.

Well, it's still not finished so I have to move over quite a lot from April that depends on the reno situation.

Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed

  • Focus goal: Clean apartment after bathroom is finished, including decluttering and putting things back in their proper place, vaccuming, mopping the floor, wiping all surfaces, window cleaning, touching up paint on the hallway walls etc. Hope for builders to be done by May 15th approximately. However, I should be able to do some tasks before that.
  • Focus goal: Prepare for shades/blinds to be put up. I will get help with this, however, I have to do some preparations before and clean the windows before and possibly also after. This needs to be completed coming weekend.
  • Get the car inspected. Needs to be done before May 15th.
  • Better sleep, at least 7 hrs/night, while still getting up early in the morning. I still want need this to be on the list, it is not a habit yet.
  • Sort out rest of summer. Make decisions and arrangements. Decide and notify after-school care. Plan single-day activities. Plan hiking.
  • Have good discussions w/kids about their rooms and how to arrange them.
  • After the big post-bathroom clean-up: Empty out and rearrange kitchen cupboards. Current layout is driving me nuts, but I know it can be really good.
  • Make a will. We get to do this at low cost as a job perk so I should really get this done.
  • Get new reading glasses.
  • Walk 248 000 steps.
  • Get paper clutter and other important information in order. Start with a plan on how I want the end result.
  • Unpack and organize balcony and basement storage. These are linked together as items will move between them in both directions.
  • Declutter and clean the apartment and set up a routine for this going forward. Use Flylady and the Tody app. This will be once I have cleaned up after the bathroom is completed.
  • Set up finances for the future and a renovation plan. Plan 2021 in Trello and calendar (timings, kids, exercise, eating, friends and relatives, work, events, money, travel, apartment plans).
  • Maybe try to start running, but I am making no promises here. This is low-priority, but it will need to happen during the summer, so I might as well start in May.

I will actually do an update on a Sunday, as I want to, but never seem able to do. However, it is a bit late, so not good for my number 4...

Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed

A lot of progress! And I have been taking a lot of cardboard and plastic to recycling. Still work to do, hoping for almost final push coming week, so I can clean next weekend.
  • Focus goal: Prepare for shades/blinds to be put up. I will get help with this, however, I have to do some preparations before and clean the windows before and possibly also after. This needs to be completed coming weekend. I am so behind on this, due to weather and kids... and activities. However, weekend has been really good, weather much better starting tomorrow, and I should be able to complete during the next few days.
  • Get the car inspected. Needs to be done before May 15th. Booked for May 11th, changed a tiny lightbulb today.
  • Better sleep, at least 7 hrs/night, while still getting up early in the morning. I still want need this to be on the list, it is not a habit yet. Has been pretty good, but not all nights.
Called and talk to a very friendly lady who checked my results and told me exactly how-to, and then I sorted it out today. Not perfectly pretty, but low cost and actually very comfortable (more so than expected).

Ugh, yeah.
Definitely tried to do too many things... /cut

@Tinker Been there, done that. Normally leads to procrastination and unhealthy eating for me, and then a bad conscience. I had to cut down so hard on my goals a couple of months ago, to try to get to a level at least possible to reach. I do hope you get some work done on the thesis, it can be so tough, but then worth it once it's over.

@Need2Save I love your #3, I may need to add that to my list!

I stole that one (3. Continue to work on local list of day trip ideas for hubby and I) from @Need2Save as well :-). I have had a list earlier years when the kids were really small, but that was more of playgrounds and local beaches to visit. Now when kids are 10 & 8, I am adding things that may require a 1-2 hour drive, as this is absolute fine now, but would have been really tough with toddlers... (also - don't need to plan for naps :-) ).

@Raenia and @Botany Bae - you have been doing really well!!

So this is the second Sunday in a row that I do an update - amazing. It's 9.30 pm, so I have to make sure I go to bed soon though.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed

Workers are not done... No progress from them this week. However, I have done some minor cleaning and putting back some things.
  • Focus goal: Prepare for shades/blinds to be put up. I was late, but I got it done, except for washing the windows properly. Blinds are now up, and I am happy. I will do some more window-washing, but no rush.
  • Get the car inspected. Needs to be done before May 15th. Yes, yes, yes. It went well. It needed a fix of something, but was approved. And the fix was also completed this week, so I am very happy.
  • Better sleep, at least 7 hrs/night, while still getting up early in the morning. I still want need this to be on the list, it is not a habit yet. Has been pretty good, but not all nights.
  • Sort out rest of summer. Make decisions and arrangements. Decide and notify after-school care. Plan single-day activities. Plan hiking. Some more progress, but I really need to decide on and book a couple of things.
  • Have good discussions w/kids about their rooms and how to arrange them. Aboslutely no progress.
  • After the big post-bathroom clean-up: Empty out and rearrange kitchen cupboards. Current layout is driving me nuts, but I know it can be really good. No progress, and will probably need to wait until early June. This bc I will be busy, and bathroom is still not completed.
  • Make a will. We get to do this at low cost as a job perk so I should really get this done.Had an online meeting with the law firm, it was really good. Now I need to fill in the online form, hope to complete this the next few days.
  • Get new reading glasses. Called and talk to a very friendly lady who checked my results and told me exactly how-to, and then I sorted it out today. Not perfectly pretty, but low cost and actually very comfortable (more so than expected).
  • Walk 248 000 steps.
  • Get paper clutter and other important information in order. Start with a plan on how I want the end result. Not much progress here, but I have started to create a vague plan at least.
  • Unpack and organize balcony and basement storage. These are linked together as items will move between them in both directions. Some progress, but still more work to do.
  • Declutter and clean the apartment and set up a routine for this going forward. Use Flylady and the Tody app. This will be once I have cleaned up after the bathroom is completed. Realised it wont be completed in May, but I need to at least start thinking about it now, or there will be no progress in May. I have roughly divided the apartment into Flylady zones and read a bit on the Flylady web page (I am quite familiar with the method).
I have not been eating well, therefore gained some kilos, so I will not run right now. However, I have stopped the snacks and candy binge eating and I am walking a lot.

Lots of good progress, blue/green everybody!

@Tinker that is good information about yourself. How will you adjust for next time?

May goals in priority order:
Goal#1 - defeat mildew - at least it's not worse Progress, finally! - continued progress And I have a suggestion on a cleaner that might help, gotta try it
Goal#2 - physical therapy 5x per week - twice (askmeevery.com is helping) good progress this week, and this week as well
Goal#3 - substantial progress on the kitchen cabinets Goal met? Yes. Progress is substantial. But I will continue to work on this, allowing myself to slack off more in the second half of the month as recognition/reward for early progress.

List for crossing off:

cupboard upper 5
cupboard upper 6 - good progress
cupboard upper 7
cupboard upper 8
cupboard upper 9
cupboard upper 10

cupboard lower 1
cupboard lower 2

Good job everyone, keep up the good work!

@Tinker It can be hard to choose the right mix of goals, don't be afraid to change your list mid-month!  Drop one or two of the ones that you're really dreading, and see if that lets you build motivation for the others.

@LinneaH Thanks!  I don't have much of a choice, this month, as we have the movers scheduled for Jun 1.  We absolutely have to be packed by then, and ideally move all the boxes and small things.  The movers charge by how long it takes, and I don't want to pay for an extra half hour for stuff we could have moved ourselves.  Even with all the progress, I'm worried about finishing in time!

 Okay, second update

May Goals

Fitness
1) weekly average of 6 km/walking/day
2) two big hikes weekly (with weighted packs, in anticipation of a weeklong hike at the start of June) --I've been hiking but not wearing a weighted pack :)
3) yoga 3x/week (I'll aim for more but minimum 3 sessions) : doing a daily practice..minimum 20 min. Only missed two days so far this month

Finances
4) rebuild my EF which was depleted last month; done!
5) pay off small line-of-credit which was used for the first time last month; work slowed and I've only paid 1/5 off..will likely carry forward for another month or two
6) 10-15 no-spend days--doing well with this..8 so far this month

Creative Brain
7) try one new recipe/week: just made a rhubarb crisp yesterday instead of my normal summer soup
8) practice new language 3x/week: dropping this off my list, it's not a priority--adding a writing challenge since I have a novel idea I am developing
9) meditate 10 min in the morning--Yes, everyday! Will aim to increase time next month once I have the daily routine

I'm glad I provided some inspiration for a couple people!  Here is my mid-month update.

1. Get house siding power washed - Done
2. At least half of deck boards restained - Done one half as planned, second half to go (probably June)
3. Continue to work on local list of day trip ideas for hubby and I - see below **
4. Run three x a week minimum - goal of 15 miles a week by end of May - I've been running 3x, but not quite up to 15 miles. Keep at it!
5. Bike two x a week minimum - I think I'm 2 for 3 weeks
6. Keep veg garden alive - So far so good. Hoping my DS will water while I'm out of town!

**Day trip planning is going well. I have identified the following along with approximate driving times from our house:
Six state parks (probably hiking targets with picnics, two with waterfalls)
Four Gardens/Arboretums (one with a historic mansion optional)
One Island (lighthouse, nature sanctuaries)
One Drive-In Theatre (near a couple state parks so could add on to other locations)
One Scenic Railroad
Two Reservoirs (also hiking trail targets or kayak?)
One National Park that's been on our 'to-do' list for a while
One specific Canal/biking destination with Brewery (reward at end)
One inner-city park I've never been to (nationally acclaimed)

All in my home state and new to me, or I don't remember having been so feels new! The furthest away is two hours. We really want to explore more locally before we potentially move away in a couple of years.

Not as much progress this week. I only really got to the darning (finally) and kept up with the fitness goals.

Health
- Schedule the boy-child's physical/dental checkup (scheduled for June!)
- Prod spouse into getting their dental checkup scheduled
- Go on a nice walk daily, barring hazardous conditions (Missed a couple of days, but hitting 5 out of 7)
- Up my yoga game from 3x to 5x a week so my neck will love me more (so far, so good.

Create

- Get my Yule gift crafting plans drawn up
- Finish the rope basket I started (about to start another one!)
- Get my next round of mail art and correspondence in the post.

Hearth

- Get the balcony garden in
- Sort out my closet in anticipation of our move
- Darn the socks I've been collecting all winter
- Implement my still nebulous pantry organization plan (It's done and it's glorious!)

Think

- Finish 4 sections of a certification I'm working on

- Listen to 4 fiction books ( 2 down, 2 to go)
- Read 2 nonfiction books (Done!)

Third Sunday in a row with an update, however, it is very late so it will be a quick one.
It has been a tough week, but progress in some areas. For the last week of May, my plans are: Mon-Wed - really busy including evenings. May be able to do minor tasks, focus will be (in order) Summer plans, balcony, make a will. Thu morning-Sat evening - away from home, and cannot really do anything. Sunday - getting first Covid shot, so I will see how the day turns out. And I just now realised there is a 31 of May as well :-). I'll hope I wont be too affected by the shot, maybe I can get something done on May 30-31.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress

  • Sort out rest of summer. Make decisions and arrangements. Decide and notify after-school care. Plan single-day activities. Plan hiking. No progress this week.
  • Have good discussions w/kids about their rooms and how to arrange them. Progress - we have been talking and decided on some things. Action will happen in June.
  • After the big post-bathroom clean-up: Empty out and rearrange kitchen cupboards. Current layout is driving me nuts, but I know it can be really good. No progress, postponed until June. Simply not doable at the moment.
  • Make a will. We get to do this at low cost as a job perk so I should really get this done. No progress this week (I need to fill in the online form). I need to do this early next week.
  • Get new reading glasses.
  • Walk 248 000 steps. Not so good this week, but on track for the month. Should be easy to reach.
  • Get paper clutter and other important information in order. Start with a plan on how I want the end result. No progress this week.
  • Unpack and organize balcony and basement storage. These are linked together as items will move between them in both directions. I had one really good evening with storage, and also good progress w/balcony.
  • Declutter and clean the apartment and set up a routine for this going forward. Use Flylady and the Tody app. This will be once I have cleaned up after the bathroom is completed. Will not happen in May, but I have updated the Tody app at least.

So here is my final update for May. A few days late but I got my first shot Sunday May 30th, and I have not been up to speed after that. Not really a troublesome reaction though, just extremely tired.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed

  • Focus goal: Clean apartment after bathroom is finished. Workers are still not done. I have done some minor cleaning.
  • Focus goal: Prepare for shades/blinds to be put up.
  • Get the car inspected. Needs to be done before May 15th.
  • Better sleep, at least 7 hrs/night, while still getting up early in the morning. I still want need this to be on the list, it is not a habit yet. Has been pretty good, but not all nights.
  • Sort out rest of summer. Make decisions and arrangements. Decide and notify after-school care. Plan single-day activities. Plan hiking. No progress this week either.
  • Have good discussions w/kids about their rooms and how to arrange them.
  • After the big post-bathroom clean-up: Empty out and rearrange kitchen cupboards. Current layout is driving me nuts, but I know it can be really good. No progress, postponed until June.
  • Make a will. I researched and decided but did not get it done.
  • Get new reading glasses.
  • Walk 248 000 steps.
  • Get paper clutter and other important information in order. Start with a plan on how I want the end result. Planned but not executed.
  • Unpack and organize balcony and basement storage. Good enough.
  • Declutter and clean the apartment and set up a routine for this going forward. Use Flylady and the Tody app. Did not happen in May due to reno, but I have updated the Tody app at least.
  • Set up finances for the future and a renovation plan. Plan 2021 in Trello and calendar (timings, kids, exercise, eating, friends and relatives, work, events, money, travel, apartment plans).
  • Maybe try to start running, but I am making no promises here. Absolutely nothing, and eating has been really, really bad last week.

Onwards to June!
