July 2022: $746,039.40
August 2022: $742,226.29
September 2022: $701,318.76
October 2022:  $721,805.00

Fun to break into a new first digit!  Also, our total investments are still lower than they were at their peak at the end of 2021, with a lot of contributions, and I'm annoyed about it lol.

But it was pretty cool to check in today and find I've finally cracked 700k for the first time...

Congrats! And nice to see someone else who dialed things in around 2016 :)

Haven't made much progress the last few months with taxes and a large lump sum payment we've been saving up for.  We should be able to get back on track next month.

April was month four of an unpaid travel sabbatical. Spent far less than prior months, but that's just because I'm behind on travel bookings which I'll have to make up for in May. Stock market performance and updated TY22 refund estimates pushed up my NW a smidge.

Big expenses of the last month and a half or so have been accounted for - should be back to normal investment cycle in June (fingers crossed)...

01/01/21 - $400,149

Investments only; Household combined.

Two days ago we were about $1500 over $1 million but alas, it was not to be for the month end.

Be patient. You will porpoise around the $1M mark for a while yet!

Yup. We're still forging ahead with our savings plan and not too concerned about things

Thank you!  Hit it briefly at the end of 2021.  Slow climb back up.  I think I'm going to hang here until Investments Only hit the 3rd comma.

Borrowed $50k from retirement for a real estate deal (temporary shuffling of $$), otherwise I would have crossed the line this month. Soon!

Thank you!! Gunning for October, but think EOY/Q1’24 is more reasonable. Goal is still a long ways off however.

Investments Only:
2020/07 - $400k
2021/01 - first time to hit $500k
2021/04 -$550k
2021/06 - Currently ~$585k
2021/07 - $600k

It's been a slow crawl against the market. New data point:

2023/06 - $700k

Home value has of course soared, so $1M net worth seems like a glimmer on the horizon.

My last post was August 2021.  Today is June 23, 2023.

We have reached a turning milestone, DD graduating from HS and enrolling in college.  A very expensive college we can't really afford.  She would not listen to reason and did not want to consider other options.  Our fault that she's a princess.  So it'd be interesting to record where ho we deal with this financial setback in the next 4 years.

                      retirement    total non-equity
July 2016:      $150,350      $204,450 (start of tracking)
Dec 2016:      $167,700      $219,800
Dec 2017:       $207,000      $315,150
Dec 2018:       $235,600      $324,150
Dec 2019:       $301,200      $386,700  doubled retirement savings in 3.5 years
Dec 2020:       $360,000      $467,400
Dec 2021:       $444,400      $530,900   this shows the impact of a new car loan that DH took
Dec 2022:       $411,500      $508,000  markets down
May 2023:       $458,100      $564,600  recovery from bad last year, status just before 1st bursar's payment

Wish us luck.

My last post was August 2021.  Today is June 23, 2023.

We have reached a turning milestone, DD graduating from HS and enrolling in college.  A very expensive college we can't really afford.  She would not listen to reason and did not want to consider other options.[/i]  Our fault that she's a princess.  So it'd be interesting to record where ho we deal with this financial setback in the next 4 years.

                      retirement    total non-equity
July 2016:      $150,350      $204,450 (start of tracking)
Dec 2016:      $167,700      $219,800
Dec 2017:       $207,000      $315,150
Dec 2018:       $235,600      $324,150
Dec 2019:       $301,200      $386,700  doubled retirement savings in 3.5 years
Dec 2020:       $360,000      $467,400
Dec 2021:       $444,400      $530,900   this shows the impact of a new car loan that DH took
Dec 2022:       $411,500      $508,000  markets down
May 2023:       $458,100      $564,600  recovery from bad last year, status just before 1st bursar's payment

Wish us luck.

Yikes, sounds like somewhere along the line you forgot that high school kids are often unreasonable so that's why parents are in charge.

You posted here so I'll give unsolicited advice:

Be the parent. Kids make mistakes, but you are not required to subsidize those mistakes if you have given them clear warning, guidance, and wisdom. I have two princesses myself. But they're much younger than yours. If our finances pan out according to our current salaries, we'll be FI before the oldest graduates high school, and we'll have enough to cover in state tuition at the local university. We can also cover room/board. If they want to go somewhere more expensive, we'll likely tell them they're on their own for the difference. We also won't give them spending money. Even now, my 6 year old works for her income. We don't believe in allowances.

The student loans that my wife and I had were a drain on the first year of marriage. I can't imagine the folks with lower incomes and more loans. That's what you'd be setting her up for.

Don't sacrifice your own financial freedom for your kid's dumb decision.

Congrats on breaking 700k!
Thanks! 12 years ago when I was working Americorps, living on $8,000 a year and didn't know what money was, that was my FI number! I think I need around $1M invested and a paid off house so it'll be a couple more years, but it does still make the threshold feel really meaningful!

My wife retired this month - I earn much more and her job has turned into a real drag - so it's one of the first times that our assets/progress have allowed us to 'buy' a meaningful lifestyle benefit.
