An amazing year.  Up £220k.  Thats an average of £18k a month.  Insane.
My income is around £5k a month.  So the rest of it is gains.

I never thought I would get here so quickly.  I was back at 300k TNW about 5 years ago.

I am on track to FIRE later in 2022.

I wont be joining the 1-2M thread as I wont be really going much further than this.

My "number" back in 2017 was 850k.  To be at 1MM today is just amazing and it has been a lot of work but its been worth it.

My new goal is to FIRE - obviously.  But also to try and maintain this TNW as long as I can.

I have a bit of money coming from the wrapping up of my business so I expect to be at around 1.1 to 1.15M at the mid point of 2022 when I hopefully will FIRE and then start a whole new journey.  I will update my progress in other threads as I go.

Cheers guys and good luck everyone!

Just broke through another level - $602,920!  15 months from joining this thread - it will be interesting to see how long the next $100,000 takes.

Just thought I would update this - we hit $700,000 at the start of November - so it only took 7 months to go from 6 to 7 investing close to the same amount as in the 18 months prior.

Cheers guys!  I might post a final number here once I FIRE just to see what I can do in the next 6 months between now and then.
1.2 would be amazing but I think 1.1 is more possible.  Or you never know I might drop back sub 1M again who knows!!

12/31/15    $92,762.33
12/31/16    $163,900.00

12/31/18    $330,093.64 - new job, nice retention bonus from previous job
12/31/19    $519,878.70 - pension lump sum after leaving old job (rolled into 401k)
12/31/20    $714,958.33

---

01/31/21    $732,701.46
02/28/21    $752,893.42
03/31/21    $768,088.25 - maxed out 401k

07/31/21    $870,706.07 - maxed out Mega Backdoor Roth
08/31/21    $896,241.14 - so clooooose to $900k
09/30/21    $893,116.97 - ouch? Annual bonus is in there, this is my biggest contribution of the year, lol.
10/30/21    $983,679.38 - wut?
11/30/21    $981,391.74 - Temporarily reached $1M on 11/03
12/31/21    $993,847.78

A bit late for the final update of the year, but hey, vacations. It's kinda annoying to finish the year so freaking close to the line, but honestly, I never thought I would be there so early, so I'll take it. Especially since January is a down month so far. Oh, well.

So to recap this year, my NW grew by $278,888.98, which is a jaw-dropping 39%. About 55% of that was new money, the rest was the market.

Now let's hope that I finish 2022 as a graduate :)

Down a little but under $500 with the big market sell off, but next month is my biggest pay month of the year by far so I'll be back to actually belonging in this thread unless something really catastrophic happens in the market.

Will wait for actual closing numbers today for a number update, but the rollercoaster continues.

Took advantage of the chance to rebalance out of target date fund in small account of my spouse, which was the default choice but overly conservative with other factors taken into account.

That won't effect my numbers here, since I'm in this race is just for my retirement and investment accounts.

Largest annual lump add for me is also coming up in the next few weeks.  These are the times when it's not bad to be buying stocks "on sale" as it were.

Hello! I see some familiar folks from the Race to $500K thread.

Investments are $515K at 12/31/21. I'll do a formatted chart for next month's update; this is just a quick post as the holidays are still happening in my world for another day.

Investments dropped to $491K this month. A setback to Nov 2021 value. Total NW is over $500K, but I'm aiming for investments only over $500K for this thread. Surely I'll be there soon.

Ouchie!!! That was not a great month was it.  Went from 1009k to 970k.
Exactly the same thing happened the month after I joined this thread at 500k.  Strange how things like that happen.

We also had to pay our annual tax bill which was more than usual.  We also had to buy a new car as the lease on our current car was ending.  Used car prices are through the roof at the moment!

Anyway, all in given what we have paid out I think we are lucky to be "just" 39k down for the month...

Apr 2017: 175k NW
Apr 2018: 333k
Apr 2019: 400k
Feb 2020: 515k
Aug 2020: 602k (415k invested)
Dec 2020: 669k (478k)
Jan 2021: 690k (507k)
Mar 2021: 716k (529k)
Apr 2021: 751k (551k)
May 2021: 787k (576k)
Jun 2021: 807k (592k)
Jul 2021: 833k (611k)
Aug 2021: 831k (625k)
Sept 2021: 640K (invested only hereafter)
Oct 2021: 628k
Nov 2021: 662k
Dec 2021: 657k
Jan 2022: 688k

We spent our butts off in Dec, probably the highest month ever, not including a spring vacation that will be paid off in credit card points. But it's hard to care when investments are up 200k for the year. I'm excited to max the 2022 IRAs on Monday and see my new 401k contribution on the paystub.

Feb 2022: 669k

So my 12k IRA deposit on January 3 didn't pan out quite as one would hope, lol! We broke 700k briefly in the first week and quickly dropped, but I'm glad to have rebounded a bit. Savings rate improved from December.

But I'm getting a rude awakening on our tax returns, showing that we owe 4k federally! Wtf!?  Our income did increase but not that much. Ugh

Up from the lowest dip in January.  Bought stock on sale for a couple pay periods.  Would be perfectly happy for it to stay down for another couple months so that annual match/bonus amounts are also buying "on sale"

Well, this race from $1M to $500k isn't as fun as the other one 😂

Did some nice tax loss harvesting last week near the bottom (so far), and my first 401(k) contribution went in. I'm watching with some sort of fascination, but so far, I'm just as unfrazzled as I was in March 2020, so I guess that's good? Wish I had more money to invest.

While this is just investments... it was a spendy month out of our savings. It was all planned and saved for spending, but I still hate to see that much money go out. I keep wondering if that will be the hardest part of retirement for me... spending money out of the accounts I'm used to shoveling money into.

Interestingly the markets being down doesn't phase me at all.

===============
Jan 2016 - £272,607 (+£22,332)

Jan 2019 - £495,379 (+£39,291)
===============
Jan 2020 - £606,791 (+£111,412)

You are lucky! We are down 7.38% this month.  We have everything on stock so probably explains it.

Thanks! I've had a high savings rate (usually 50-60%). I'm on a fixed income because I'm disabled but it's a generous fixed income and I net about $13,000/month.

I'll never get to 1M; I wish! Even though I'll be saving 50% after mortgage is paid off in 2.5 years, I'm too low income and too old -- 51 years old.  Maybe I'll get there if I live to 90 lol.

This!  I expected to top out around 850k.  I passed 1MM in the new year.  Back under 1MM now..... life throws curve balls.
Not FIRE'd yet either - another 3-4 months to go!

So far it is looking like another down month.  (I track every Monday before market open)

At least since I'm still working the money going in is buying more regardless of the market volatility overall value dipping the total value down.

Yep, not looking great is it. We're down £28k / 4% for the month; can only see that going lower the way things are turning out in Ukraine...

Back with tail between legs. :(  Just over a million long enough to peek over the other side.  Now I'm back under with the market down.  I'm trying to tell myself it's all good as I'm buying cheaper stocks.  Still sad though.

Adding more green workers is more effective when the market is down.  That's what I'm comforting myself with as well, although in my case it is going from nearly halfway through this race back to only being about a third done.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
