12/2014    $32,000
12/2016    $64,000 (24 months)
1/2018      $128,000 (25 months)

12/1/2020 $552,641.05 (tons of market gains...sustainable/real?)
1/1/2021   $574,330.90 (very excited for the next couple of months...bonus, raises, 401K match all hit!!!)
2/1/2021   $637,442.01
3/1/2021   $730,728.94 (still waiting on that 401k match/employer-side contribution to hit for another 38k)

7/1/2021   $920,541.74 - realizing I could graduate a whole year early!!!
8/1/2021   $893,351.71 - slippage due to taking some cash out during the mid-july market dip to fund a commercial property investment.  Poorly timed, though not a market timing move.  Onward

I guess that's me graduating out of this thread, might be back if we see a correction I guess. 26 months to go from 250k to 500k, 37 months to go from 500k to $1M. Projecting out it looks like it will take 47 months to go from $1M to 2M, but who knows!?

I really wasn't expecting this until December/January this year. Money printers are running hot I guess, and you have to think about it in that context. Your savings buys less of an 'annuity' than it used to, so while posting these numbers is great, it's kind of frustrating that the money I save each month doesn't buy me as much 'passive income' as it used to.

Still, will be going out to dinner to celebrate this milestone.

After today's paycheck, we are over $500k in just stocks/bonds now!
Next stop - $500k in just stocks. Another year?

first post $770k invested, small chance 1 million end of next year. Investing 74k a year.

I got some cash I might dump in to get this number up. $180k equity in house plus cash puts me just over $1 million NW.

I'm inching closer to the $900k mark ($885k  today) and the closer it gets, the slower it feels (narrator: *it's not slow*).

Will it change anything? Nope. Is it an important milestone? Nope. I'm still 8 years away from my RE number, and I know that unless the market tanks, it will happen in September anyway when I get my bonus.

BUT I STILL WATCH IT LIKE A HAWK.

Anyone else obsessing over stupid meaningless milestone or am I the only crazy one?

OK, i'm going out for a run.

Help.

When last I left, I had the temporary experience of having hit $1M in investments. Yes, it was Feb 2020. And then Covid crash. I disappeared, didn't look at things, and kept doing what I was doing, which, unfortunately, was spending money on a house that was mid-renovation. Contractor was able to get through enough of it that we could move in during July and sell our old place. Never figured on carrying both houses for that long, but never figured on a global pandemic either.

Anyway, here's the old count with a most recent update. And with that, I'll bid this, my favorite gauntlet, adieu. Hope to see many of you over in the $1-2M gauntlet soon.

date         NW        Investments
4/3/14     $430k         $225k
9/19/14    $500k         $275k
11/6/14    $550k         $300K
5/9/15     $600k         $341k
4/13/16    $650k         $375k
9/7/16     $700k         $410k
5/6/17     $750k         $674k (*I think I lost history on one of our accounts prior to this)
9/9/17     $800k         $717k
11/22/17   Assets hit $1M
12/15/17   $850k         $770K
3/10/18    $900k         $770k (refinanced house, put $ in and moved from 30 to 15 yrs)
6/16/18    $950k         $818k
12/26/18   $900k         $750k
1/10/19    $950k         $803k
2/19/19    $1M !!!       $856k
6/12/19    $1.05M        $900k
10/9/19    $1.08M        $895k (downpayment on house and market misery)
12/31/19   $1.16M        $974k
2/12/20    $1.19M        $1M !!!
bad, scary, viral things happened, house stuff, then back at it
8/13/21    $1.46M        $1.27M

@Nick_Miller here and checking in! We're continuing to chug along, better half got a wonderful raise, and I got some potentially good career related news on my end, which should help us keep on path for the 7/2023 $1mm target goal.

2/14/21 - $427,486 (+$27,337)
3/01/21 - $443,490 (+$43,341)
3/19/21 - $451,670 (+$51,521)
3/31/21 - $458,005 (+$57,856)
4/15/21 - $470,187 (+$70,038)
4/30/21 - $475,833 (+$75,684)
5/15/21 - $486,446 (+$86,297)
5/28/21 - $497,565 (+$97,416)
6/05/21 - $505,428 (+$105,279)
6/30/21 - $517,109 (+$116,960)
7/30/21 - $534,405 (+$134,256)
8/15/21 - $543,454 (+$143,305)

Here's to hoping we can keep up the same sort of pace going forward.

I'm still here at 633k invested and thinking of abandoning tracking our other assets in this race. We're never planning to move, and the cash will be spent or invested. That leaves some small pensions, but I won't consider us actually FI until we have 1m invested.

$1 million is an important milestone and I was obsessing over it too.
After you cross it, it's like eh whatever, you're just waiting for RE after that.

I've been following this thread for a long time. I have always followed one thread above where I am at the moment, it gives me inspiration. It's like one side of my brain saying to the other side, "See? These people are just like you. They just have more zeros."

thanks @tarheeldan . I haven't been tracking anything but current networth so I don't have great historical but I filled in the best I could and this will let me do that going forward.

Point of clarification. I see networth used on the spreadsheet labels. Are you all tracking networth? I'm tracking my invested assets. I have ~40k in cash and 185k house equity I'm not including. I need to jump over to 1m+ plus in that case

Point of clarification. I see networth used on the spreadsheet labels. Are you all tracking networth? I'm tracking my invested assets. I have ~40k in cash and 185k house equity I'm not including. I need to jump over to 1m+ plus in that case

This is all for your own pleasure and humblebrag so everyone does it how it makes the most sense for them.  Some do TNW, some market equities only, others total investable assets including rental real estate or other.  It is for your own reference so how you track is up to you.   As for me, I include all investable assets including rental real estate equity but separate out the market equities.  I have two long-term targets, one for RE equity and another for market equities.

Yep, I think everyone just tracks what they care to track. It's more of a challenge against yourself more than a challenge against others, so if we're not all apples to apples around here, it makes little difference, really.

Personally, I track what I consider to be my wife and I's net worth (so retirement accounts, taxable investments, cash accounts, home equity, etc) but I don't include stuff like college funds (I consider that to be my kiddos' money) or our checking account (negligible impact, and fluctuates a lot). When we had debt, like student loans or credit cards, I obviously backed that out from the assets, but now we're debt free other than our home.

I "count" investments and cash as my entry into this race, but keep track of total net worth for fun

Cool. I like to do invested assets since that's controlling the 4% SWR number. Though I have no set in stone FIRE number or date.

I don't at all trust where we're at, but technically above the number, so I figured I'd post. No daycare or student loan costs due to covid have been a big help to cashflow. Have been able to auto-draft 1k weekly into vanguard brokerage. 2nd daughter due next month.

@pharmmm HOLY MOLEY!!!

You came a year ago, introduced yourself once, then peaced out exactly a year later after having saved enough to have your invested assets grow $500k in 12 months!!! That's freaking EPIC! Congrats! You both are ready to retire without even having paid off your student loans lol

Haha, thank you! I knew I made that first post, and I knew I had the 1m goal, but life happened and I just never made it back to update along the way. Kept up my own personal speadsheet every month, and just saved it up for one data dump. Some of the 70k jump months were bananas, still doesn't seem real. Going to wait until the dust settles and get comfortable with the idea of M status to introduce myself in the 1M-?? thread.

I think my personal capital data got messed up so I'm updating the numbers.  Was briefly over 1M at the beginning of May and have been grinding back up towards that mark while having some expenses come up.  We have a little more cushion now but we are still at the mercy of the markets.

Only $2K away!  Looking back, it took me almost 2 years to go from $0 to $100K, one year to go from $100K to $250K, and 2 years to from $250K to $500K (and it seems November is milestone month for us).
If the markets behave it will take us just under 2 years to go from $500K to $1M.  Fingers crossed!

Hopefully it will happen this week!! Congrats, great progress. I also reached $500k in 11/2019 but COVID took that away. Now I'm about $100k behind you!
