As of YESTERDAY, I have graduated into this thread!

July 2018: $522k

I've been hovering around 498-502 for a few weeks now depending on what's going on in the market from day-to-day, but yesterday I received a $20k midyear bonus along with my regular paycheck, so I think I am now comfortably established in the half million+ zone, hopefully for good!

Approximately 3 years later, I am close to graduating out of this thread. :) I got a divorce that took about a $150k hit out of my stash, quit my high-paying job and took a 6 month sabbatical, and bought a house in a HCOL city -- but man did that stock market go up anyway! I'm sitting at around $945k at the moment, and think I'll hit $1M by this time next year if not sooner.

It seems like a lot of people are getting close to $1 million. If you're anxious to cover that final mile, you can take a sizable position in something highly volatile.

Hey what’s going on everyone? I’m staking my claim here on the way to 1M. I tallied up all my liquid cash and investments this weekend and I’m at $855,000.

My wife and I both expect to work from home for the foreseeable future so our savings rate should be pretty stellar for 2021. As long as we don’t see an extended period of negative returns, we should cross the 1M mark within 12 months.

Total FIRE savings goal is 1.8-2M which I hope to see in 5-7 years. (Currently early 40’s).

I haven’t posted in a while and I stopped checking my balances so often for my own sanity, but decided to tally up my number this weekend and looks like I crossed the 1M mark in the past week.

As of 7/23 cash and investments totaled $1,010,510.

November 11, 2020:  $527,000
December 11, 2020:  $607,796 (501,797 euros). This month's total is more accurate than last month's, because I actually did the euro conversions and the math with a calculator instead of just spitballing it.  I STILL don't have an answer from the government about how much taxes they want for 2019, but I don't think it's going to bust my butt back down under 500K DOLLARS.

Thanks to a previous mathematical error on my part, a good stock market (for now), the resolution of my tax situation, and clients paying before year-end, I've rocketed past 500K in both euros and dollars, so drum roll please:

January 4, 2020:  564,565 in euros/692,608 in dollars.

The dollar is just limping along and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some improvement in 2021 but am not optimistic on that front.  Next stop 750K in dollars because that'll mean I'm halfway through this stage.  Will have to have a good year for that to happen.

I have officially made it to 750K in dollars.

March 5, 2021:  642,068 in euros/764,565 in dollars!  March will probably be a good month too.  Next stop 900K.

Sadface:  I am down to $720,480.03 thanks to some long-overdue home repairs and the purchase of a wreck of a (different) house to renovate and sell.  That said, I have 2 possible large infusions by the end of 2021, and the renovation should be done within a few months, so if the strong housing market in my area continues, that could be a nice profit as well.  If even 1 of these 3 things works out, I'll be back on track.  We shall see.  Being more than halfway in the race from 500-1M was a psychological boost, but oh well.

Every month I'm disappointed when I get my number for this thread, until I see last month's posting and I'm always pleasantly surprised. I dialed back on investments to build up more cash reserves and am somehow still up a significant amount. I'll need a new heroin when the market goes down or flat again!

12-31-13 ~ (-100k)
12-31-14 ~ (-80k)
12-31-15 ~ (-62k)
12-31-16 ~ (-30k)
12-31-17 ~ 20k
12-31-18 : 117k
12-31-19 : 243k
12-31-20 : 410k

07/31/21 : 537k (+13k)

Wild to save this much all the time. Spent most of high school working after school, doubles on weekends and all summer. By the end of high school I had a paid off $10k car and around $10k in the bank which seemed like a fortune. All that work, all those days being pissed off about working... now I can save that much in a month, every month. Then the depression in college and after graduation - so much debt, no job, the feeling of hopelessness. All of that is a distant memory now, but spent so many days feeling like I made a mistake. Crazy how things change - Now I could pay for a new college degree every year and then some. All of those negative feelings, all a waste. Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose. Now I fight the feeling of meaningless repetition and fulfillment. Perhaps destine to never be satisfied. One day I will look back on this time with the same feelings of waste. Once FI the grind to FI, the feelings of meaninglessness, all for nothing.

Try to enjoy it.

Every month I'm disappointed when I get my number for this thread, until I see last month's posting and I'm always pleasantly surprised.

This is so true! For me this month was very "meh" in the market. Still, it was also a great month in terms of savings, and I'm up $25k. That's a lot more than my base salary. Half a year of projected retirement expenses. In a single month. I mean...

I saved ~$15k, and made an additional principal payment of $1,200 to my car loan. The rest is the market.

Now that I've maxed out my retirement accounts, the fun begins as I've started sending money to my brokerage account. July was the first month I had a paycheck above a couple hundred dollars 😂

Jan 2017  $275k
Jan 2018 $356k
Jan 2019 $447k
Jan 2020 $559k (433 liquid + 126 prop)
Jun 2020 $560k (440 liquid + 120 prop)
Jan 2021 $745k ($545k liquid)
June 2021 $913k ($675k liquid)

The stock market and housing insanity has just blown our net worth through the roof. It seems unreal.

July 2021 $1,003,776 ($750k liquid)

Breaking cycle to celebrate this little milestone. I call it millionaire status with a little m because it's real estate +liquid that puts us there. Big M is for when liquid assets hit the milestone.

I think I will hang around here for a bit longer before popping my head in the next thread... It doesn't feel like I've earned the right to post in the other thread yet for some bizarre reason riding this weird wave of housing/stock market boom in a pandemic.

Is there a millionaire imposter syndrome? Asking for a friend :)

Looks like you ought to change trend line data subset. You've been doing major work the last 4 years and the line doesn't reflect it. Or if you want to include all time pick non linear.

Apr 2017: 175k NW
Apr 2018: 333k
Apr 2019: 400k
Feb 2020: 515k
Aug 2020: 602k (415k invested)

Mar 2021: 716k (529k)
Apr 2021: 751k (551k)
May 2021: 787k (576k)
Jun 2021: 807k (592k)
Jul 2021: 833k (611k)
Aug 2021: 831k (625k)

Had much higher home improvement expenses in July, with a drop in home "value" (per Zillow) to make the NW go down.  But honestly, I don't really care about that number as long as investments are going up.  And they have increase 200k+ in one year.  That's mind blowing to me.

Net Worth // Invested Assets
1/1/21 - $500,317 // $346,651
2/1/21 - $513,258 // $355,473
3/1/21 - $531,847 // $366,107
4/1/21 - $548,364 // $380,740
5/1/21 - $568,829 // $408,712
6/1/21 - $569,723 // $408,351
7/1/21 - $612,700 // $431,974

8/1/21 - $625,715 // $412,017

We have to move (hence the drop in investments).  Terrible timing, but hopefully we can make up for it when we sell our current house.

I'm just waiting for a bear market to start so we're all stuck here for years and then disappear in a day, springing into the 2m thread completely skipping the 1-2.

Hello, I'm new here - just moving from the 'Race from 250k to 500k' tread.

About me:  I've started tracking our assets on Mint in July 2016.  That's pretty much when I discovered MMM and it has been instrumental in our progress.

There have been several challenges in these five years:  In 2017 I lost my job, right after we sold our tiny condo and bought a more expensive suburban home - and I was not able to find another job for several long and anxious months.  Then in 2020 my husband lost his job, due to Cobid-19 closures; he just started his own construction company this year and is yet to get established.  We are not high earners, we live in a very HCOL area, and have a high-schooler that will be going to college in 2 years.

Despite these challenges, we've made good progress.  We've more than doubled our non-equity assets in 5 years, reaching 1/2 mil a couple months ago.  My hope is that we can reach 1 mil. by 2029 - 8 years from now; which is much slower doubling rate than previously, but that considers that we'll be paying for daughter's college.

                      retirement    total non-equity
July 2016:      $150,350      $204,450 (start of tracking)
Dec 2016:      $167,700      $219,800
Dec 2017:       $207,000      $315,150
Dec 2018:       $235,600      $324,150
Dec 2019:       $301,200      $386,700
Dec 2020:       $360,000      $467,400
July 2021:       $414,700      $520,600

If anyone here has experience in how paying for child's college has impacted their progress to FIRE, I'd like to hear it!
