Just joining this thread and excited to be here! Hit 500K total net worth in March of 2021. Spent about 3 years in the Race from 250-500 thread.

Welcome, Mrs. D! You've reached Eagleton now. Because of our cupcake factory, the air here smells like vanilla.

And serious question to others: are folks counting their crypto portfolios in their net worth? Or do most people treat that more as an "extra?"

By definition you should include all assets (including crypto) and liabilities when calculating net worth. It may make sense to exclude it from your calculation of your investment portfolio, however, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Joining. Can't improve what you don't measure. Targeting 1M in investments by 2024-age 35 as a couple.

Belatedly joining the thread. I hit 500k in January, but due to the NYC suburbs housing market boom my NW is about 605k now when you include the equity in my home.

Jan 2016 - -35k
Jan 2017 - 30k
Jan 2018 - 125k
Jan 2019 - 245k
Jan 2020 - 367k
Dec 2020 - 489k
April 2021 - 605k - large bonus + home appreciation of nearly 100k in under a year.

Rough Breakdown:
Cash: 65k
Retirement: 92k
Investment: 172k
Home Equity: 290k
School Debt (through fam; 0% interest): 10k left

Officially passed $600k NW last week, but downshifting next month into sabbatical/coast/barista-FIRE mode. Might be a slow growth to 1M -- but the free time I'll get back will be worth it!

Something weird to realize... we're probably in this race for good, barring a total collapse of the economy and real estate markets.

Thanks for the welcome, Nick_Miller. I thought the air up here reminded me of kids' birthday parties ;)

I treat mine as a complete extra, like my accruing credit card balance each month isn't a negative unless I don't pay it off.

I cashed out half my crypto earlier this year and added that to regular old boring investments so I've got some profits in my net worth now, but only count it at that point.

@Geographer I didn't notice until you mentioned it.  Savings rate for 19 was 50%, 20 was 60%, 21 so far is 80%.
Vanguard returns seem to be 50% for this last year?  which is crazy.

I did the usual, which is high savings rate and low-cost index funds.

I also did stupid shit like:
buy individual stocks (cciv and srngu)
Sell and buy options

I've had my eye on this thread for quite some time.  I watched my investment balance get closer and closer and finally today is the day.

4.27.21   $502,162.30  investments only.
8.29.21     540, 000

This is crazy for me since I grew up in a working class household that never had enough to pay all the bills.  I never made more than 7000 dollars a year until the age of 30.  I am now 53.   I don't really aspire to a million.  My house and cars are paid off and my daughter got a fat four year scholarship.  My husband has a government job with health insurance.  We also have a couple of rentals.  My lean fire is 600 and fat fire is 900k.  I will quit in six years.  I'm feeling so happy.

This is very cool, your final race and you don't even have to complete it to win! Congratulations.

Sadly I have to hit at least the next race (or two) because Canada uses funny money that's worth less than yours.

Sorry about the Canadian currency.   But you live in an amazing country so that is worth a lot.  I am in the Northwest and I feel like we have more culturally similar to Canada than other parts of the US.  Good luck with your race.  Things could take a positive turn.

Every time I check the retirement accounts I cannot help but feel incredibly rich. Like Hounton (and others here I know), I grew up in a working class household where my mom would decided each month which bills to pay and which ones could wait. I remember in school someone talking about what they would do with a million dollars and I couldn't come up with anything at first, because I couldn't imagine having a million dollars. Well... I'm not there yet, but I seem to be well on my way.

Whoohoo!

Although you are welcome back, I think the rules say once you make it to the next level, you get to stay there, no matter what the net worth does.

Updated house values and added in my solar loan (I originally didn't count it because it was all cash flow positive from the beginning, but I've decided to pay it off early anyway).

I passed $1mil in assets, which is pretty cool. Now I just need the NW number to get there :)

Between increase in home value (conservative estimate) and surging stock market, this was a great month. We finally opened a taxable brokerage account and we're focusing on funding that to help build flexibility for our 50s. It's crazy that we're almost already up $100K for the year and could exceed $600K this summer.

It seems like every month I post the same thing...this growth is crazy!  I thought we'd hit $1,000,000 about 5 years after we retired.  Now we are less than $8,000 away with two more months of contributions.  I keep thinking the growth is going to slow down (and I know it will and will even go backwards) but good grief.  We've gotten rich while we are waiting on that to happen.  All of a sudden I'm worried about too much money.  And THAT boys and girls, is crazy.

Officially joining:

Tracking net worth/ investments +cash.
Big jump was from a pension rollover landing in my IRA (I had no way to track the pension value before).

Note: for the sake of convenience I only use the assets that are in my name on these tracking threads.
Another note: my table format keeps getting screwed up when I remove the quotes. Giving up on it for now.

Something weird to realize... we're probably in this race for good, barring a total collapse of the economy and real estate markets.

What could possibly go wrong?

The increase from when I joined this thread in January to now has been pretty crazy to watch. Only $14,500 of it is contributions (including 401k match), the rest is market gains. If this keeps up, my investments will earn more than my salary this year.

I'll thank my $1000 dogecoin "investment" I made in January. Currently sits at $19,000. The swings on it have been wild and it's been fun to follow. Could very well see this number come down in the months ahead. Hopefully we'll keep pressing forward.
