Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

First post in this thread! Somehow getting into this one is more exciting than the previous ones! :-)

Jan. 2017   $42,000 [discovered MMM at age 41]
...
Apr. 2019   $271,294
...
Aug. 2020  $402,692
Nov. 2020  $427,563
Dec. 2020  $444,558
Jan. 2021  $459,349
Feb. 2021  $475,145
Mar. 2021  $477,249
Apr. 2021  $503,448

Had been expecting to graduate into this thread sometime this coming summer, but here we are! I've got about $30k in federal student loans due to be forgiven this June, and a decent tax return and a raise coming up, so hopefully I'm here to stay for a while!

Figures above include a pretty conservative home-equity number. Liquid assets are at $452k currently.

Hello all! I'm coming to join ya'll here on this journey, having recently crossed the threshold. As my current FI number is a bit less than the goal, I may not graduate from here, but maybe I'll end up with a OMY or two and end up finishing off this race as well.

Starting at:
1 January 2021 - $502,810

1 January 2021 - $502,810
1 April 2021      - $542,985

Since passing 400k mark its took me about 14-18 months to move up 100k depending on markets etc.

However the 700-800k run took only 6 months which is crazy.  Its 3 months since I passed 800 and closing in on 850 so could be 7-8 months for 800-900.

The last decade has been pretty great for these races.

I'm not as excited if we have -10% returns a few years in a row and I break even at best for net worth growth :)

Same, especially when looking at market valuation related to price/earnings ratios. While I'm on track to hit $1M in about 12 months even with pretty flat market returns, I would be in the same situation as you describe where if we were losing 10% a year, or an even bigger drop like we saw from mid 2007 to early 2009, my 12 months to $1M could end up taking more like 4 years. It's just part of the market cycle. We lean on our data and the data says equities are simply more valuable in the long term of multi-decade wealth planning than bonds, for example. Or even if you're in real estate, if the current runup in housing prices is leading to even a half-as-severe 2008 style housing crash, that's still going to put a similar multi-year dent in a big real estate portfolio.

We work with whatever we've got, and accept that we have very little control on external events that stretch beyond our own sphere of influence and ability to decide the balance of our portfolios.

Joining the ranks of you folks chasing that seven-figure milestone! (To keep my journey consistent, I’m going to be following based on my personal investments / retirement accounts—separate from the wife's—and not counting the home value).

This weekend, April 2021, I hit a major milestone: $700k at 37-years-old.

Looking back at notes from ‘Race from 250 to 500k!’, here’s a brief recap:
*June 2010 - Finish grad school, 26 y/o, $90k+ in debt; new job at $40k/year
*May 2015 - (I think) - First crossed $100k at 31 y/o
*January 2018 - Passed the $250k mark
*April 2019 - Hit $312.5k
*June 2019 - 1/3 of the way to $1M
*February 2020 - Hit $400k
*November 2020 - Eclipsed $500k (and finished the ‘Race from 250 to $500k!’)

Joining from the race to 500,000 thread which is based on liquid investments, but will post both since living in Seattle has been good to real estate value lately, but that is more an estimate of what we would get from a sale of our house

May 2018: $502,000 Inv/$852,000 NW

We just recently passed the $1,000,000 mark for liquid investments. Our house value has also gone up a lot living in the Seattle area.

April 2021: 1,029,000 investments/ 1,576,000 total NW. I have been going by investments total not including house.

My 401k: 360000
Wife 401k: 435000
Vanguard non-retirement: 164000
College fund: 33000
HSA: 37000

Total NW includes house minus mortgage estimate.

There has been good growth we also still save aggressively, but saving percent was a bit higher a few years ago. Still around 50% savings rate.

We are just outside Mill Creek. It has been crazy. Two houses on our street sold in less than 5 hours on the market. Prices have been going up fast. We are still working and going on to the race for 2 million next. My wife will retire first probably but not quite yet.

My wife and I crossed the $900k mark this month and are over 50% of our full FIRE number of $1.8 million. We are less than $300k from our $1.2m lean fire number (that would pay off the house plus give us $40k a year). This is finally starting to feel real. We’ve been at a 70%+ savings rate throughout COVID and are going to try and keep it up as long as possible.

Cash & investments:
2/21/21:$855k
3/15/21: $872k
4/15/21: $915k

Agreed that this first quarter has been pretty incredible - @Sid Hoffman appreciate your realistic statement there - I'm exactly one of those folks you are referring to - I think I opened a brokerage account in 2012, so basically its just been a snowball rolling down a hill (especially since I started reading MMM in 2016 and got wise to Vanguard mutual funds) faster and faster, but the market can't do this forever....right?

Welcome, Mrs. D! You've reached Eagleton now. Because of our cupcake factory, the air here smells like vanilla.

And serious question to others: are folks counting their crypto portfolios in their net worth? Or do most people treat that more as an "extra?"

By definition you should include all assets (including crypto) and liabilities when calculating net worth. It may make sense to exclude it from your calculation of your investment portfolio, however, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Belatedly joining the thread. I hit 500k in January, but due to the NYC suburbs housing market boom my NW is about 605k now when you include the equity in my home.

Jan 2016 - -35k
Jan 2017 - 30k
Jan 2018 - 125k
Jan 2019 - 245k
Jan 2020 - 367k
Dec 2020 - 489k
April 2021 - 605k - large bonus + home appreciation of nearly 100k in under a year.

Rough Breakdown:
Cash: 65k
Retirement: 92k
Investment: 172k
Home Equity: 290k
School Debt (through fam; 0% interest): 10k left

Officially passed $600k NW last week, but downshifting next month into sabbatical/coast/barista-FIRE mode. Might be a slow growth to 1M -- but the free time I'll get back will be worth it!

Welcome, Mrs. D! You've reached Eagleton now. Because of our cupcake factory, the air here smells like vanilla.

And serious question to others: are folks counting their crypto portfolios in their net worth? Or do most people treat that more as an "extra?"

Thanks for the welcome, Nick_Miller. I thought the air up here reminded me of kids' birthday parties ;)

I treat mine as a complete extra, like my accruing credit card balance each month isn't a negative unless I don't pay it off.

I cashed out half my crypto earlier this year and added that to regular old boring investments so I've got some profits in my net worth now, but only count it at that point.

Impressive, how did you pull that off?! Doubled in one year. Super high income or mostly market-driven?

@Geographer I didn't notice until you mentioned it.  Savings rate for 19 was 50%, 20 was 60%, 21 so far is 80%.
Vanguard returns seem to be 50% for this last year?  which is crazy.

I did the usual, which is high savings rate and low-cost index funds.

I also did stupid shit like:
buy individual stocks (cciv and srngu)
Sell and buy options

I've had my eye on this thread for quite some time.  I watched my investment balance get closer and closer and finally today is the day.

4.27.21   $502,162.30  investments only.
8.29.21     540, 000

This is crazy for me since I grew up in a working class household that never had enough to pay all the bills.  I never made more than 7000 dollars a year until the age of 30.  I am now 53.   I don't really aspire to a million.  My house and cars are paid off and my daughter got a fat four year scholarship.  My husband has a government job with health insurance.  We also have a couple of rentals.  My lean fire is 600 and fat fire is 900k.  I will quit in six years.  I'm feeling so happy.
